Microsoft & Gamestop ~ join forces with Azure

Guess we now know why we are not able to purchase digital games outside of the MS store..

Looks like MS and GS have came up with a plan for MS to drop a cloud azure service into Gamestop stores to control streamed trailers and shopping carts..

The Microsoft cloud tech that powered Titanfall will soon power GameStop

    :)

  2. The terrible future of online pass in games

What about the rental market...like i said before Gamestop is not the only monster here...gamers that rent every game new, beat it and never bought it are also the monsters IMHO. So the practice will be worst and the same if they join forces just to end
with the used market but let the rental working the same. The only thing that will end with the onl pass but %^%$& more the gamers is the DD.

Q&A With MS Veep Phil Harrison - Very informative

Mike, I had already read your post.....a bunch of rumors and half truths being passed off as fact. Sorry, dude, you may operate that way, but I do not. I let the FACTS tell the story, not some storyteller with an axe to grind.

    [/quote]

Not true at all. Microsoft's plan was already set in place with Azure and their agreement with Gamestop

    .

    It's simple common sense

I think this is a good thing to limit where games, etc are sold.

There are so many scam websites out there offering gold, etc for surveys, or just for free that turn out to be phishing. It sort of combats those things.

So in a nutshell, Gamestop is going to be paying MS to utilize their server farms, as many companies do already. This is newsworthy how?....

^^ It is news-worthy, because it is new to MS/GS.

Is this good news or bad news? I thought everybody hated Gamestop

So this is basically the ability to watch advertisements on your smart phone or tablet while your in the store

"Using smartphones and Windows tablets, customers will be able to view trailers and other promotional materials. GameStop's sales associates will provide a "personalized shopping experience" based on its customers' history. Azure will also power
trailers streaming to 4K televisions in GameStop stores and an in-store shopping cart for customers."

    Sounds awesome can't wait...

by the title, i was suddenly filled with hope that i could sell digital titles to GameStop or something along those lines, but this isn't very interesting, but i wonder how this will affect the stores/employees, am i going to seeing seeing larger amounts
of shelf space for Xbox? employees start throwing in a Xbox slogan when they answer the phone?

I honestly don't like the sound of it. To me it sounds like bad news. This is just a form of advertising that is going to track you. Now it will allow Gamestop who already does it and Microsoft who already does it to combine there data mining.

"GameStop's sales associates will provide a "personalized shopping experience" based on its customers' history"

They will now be able to look at all your history to try and send you targeted advertisements in store. Of course you will be able to opt out so it's not the biggest deal but sill.

i personally dislike gamestop and could really care less about this news, but i don't see it as a bad thing. some people like gamestop and its better to have this then go in to buy a SP RPG game and have the cashier ask if you want to pre order CoD etc.

Track you??? Ohh yeah thats right.... you are one of them.. but no seriously..I kid you... you need to take off the hat, at least in public..

Not very news worthy, I understand... there are no specs to argue about. All it is really is MS turning Gamestop stores into a mini cloud port. Maybe they turn these into hubs or portals like why optimum has a superior WIFI. Each commercial account with
Optimum that uses their internet can turn their router into a public WIFI Hot spot. Or is it nothing more than advertisement.

OR it could mean a partnership like this could mean we are finally getting digital downloads from 3rd party companies. Tap into Gamestops cloud in-store.. purchase games while there through Gamestop, automatically DL to your XB, or even online...

Wonder if this will apply to EB Games eventually? Considering they are a division of Gamestop.

Rightt. I guess you think they can provide a "personalized shopping experience" based on its customers' history" by not tracking you... Come on genius that's the way it works it's not a crazy conspiracy theory it's reality. When you signed up for Xbox you
agreed to the terms that allow them to share your information with third party's but I guess they just throw that in for the fun of it right?

Xbox has been doing it since the 360 remember when you go to the store and it says since you played game "x" you might also like game "z". And when you shop at Gamestop you scan your rewards card every time you buy something which you can look at your purchase
history right now on there website. Now they can combine these 2 sources and custom advertise to you in store.

I said clearly it's not a big deal. We have privacy settings on our phones and I use them. But your silly remark about me wearing a hat is laughable it sounds like your wearing a blind fold.

Personally I'm not seeing the "bad" side of it. Tbh, I'm really not bothered if they track my buying habits.

Whats the big deal about offering suggestions based on your gaming history? or movies you watch? Is there anything potentially embarrising? The only thing I can think of is if you played The Guy Game, which I'm sad to admit I did play (weekend rental) but
I was a young horndog then. Lol
