Microsoft FS2020 crashes on the Cessna screen "Checking updates"

I had the same problem; after initially working OK, the sim didn't get past the 'checking for updates'-screen when I started it again later; after trying all sorts of things (re-installing the game, renewing drivers, removing MSI Afterburner etc.) it turned
out that I wasn't logged in at the MS Store. When I logged in by typing my PIN number and then restarting the sim, everything worked fine, and has done so ever since. Maybe this may help you?

Ive so had it with FS2020, im litterly going back to fsx steam!!

I had the issue with the game crashing on checking for updates. It had worked earlier in the evening and then I installed the London City pack upgrade from the Marketplace. When I restarted the game, it would hang just after starting to check for updates.

I removed the folder containing the Marketplace content and restarted the game. Went straight in.

Location of the Marketplace content is:

%appdata%/Local/Packages/MicrosoftFlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalCache/Packages/Official/OneStore/

Locate the package just installed and delete it. I deleted the orbx London folder that had the time stamp corresponding to when I installed it.

Thanks @voidstarer - same issue here but with Steam. Folder to look for in this case is `C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Official\Steam`

I made that thread. It might help. Its helped some.

I had the same Problem, at exactly the same position.

- music makes strange sound for 1 second

- black screen

- System reboots.

In my case I was able fixing the problem by exchange of PC power supply.

Sounds strange, however, it definitaly solved the problem on my PC.

Original power supply was a cheap one with 500W output power and only ONE PCIe power outlet for the graphic board.

New one has 650W and two PCIe power channels for the graphik board.

For double checking I swapped back to the "old" power supply: problem appears again.

Swapping back to new power supply: no crashes!
