Microsoft Family Xbox Screen Time Bypass

One of my kiddos supervenes Microsoft Family "screen time" limits with a second xbox account. He signs into his first live account, then piggy backs off of the service provided by it on the alternate account. I started paying attention when he was in his room for hours. I could hear him in chatting with his friends so I started checking his used time and it wasn't changing. I wasn't sure if there was a delay in Xbox talking to the MS Family server... but after a half hour of the time not changing on the "Screen Time" I knew something was up.

Recommendation to parents: Software screen limits are great, but nothing beats a hard set timer.

Recommendation to MS: log screen time, even if the account being monitored isn't logging application activity.

    :)

Well, if the kiddos are old and/or smart enough (or have the right friends,) they'll always find a way.

"Parenting" is always a better option than letting a console do the parenting for you. Unlike seemingly most parents these days, you actually seem to be doing that, so kudos.

If he keeps cheating the system, he loses his console... would be my advice. But it's obviously not my place to say. ;-)

he sure dud lose it... I try to teach my kids that operating "on their terms" will eventually be exposed and when it does, there will be fallout. No worries though, I'm sure I can find things around the house to keep him busy ;-)

Thanks for posting this info. I would recommend reporting this exploit on the console. Hold the Guide button on the controller till you see the option to report an issue then just follow the instructions provided.

    Screen Time Limits Easily Bypassed

    Hello H00AH!

I know this situation must be frustrating. We're here to help! I would recommend you switch the accounts Sign in preferences from the parental account. Switching the child accounts settings so that the account is not set up to Instant sign in and set up
with the "Lock it down" option instead. This would require him entering the child accounts password in order to sign in and that can only be performed online. Also by turning off the Instant Sign in feature his account would not be able to be signed into while
offline without the password as well. That would stop the guest account from being able to log in. Hope this helps!

Change your sign-in preferences on your Xbox One console (You must follow these steps but from the Family tab in your Account Settings
under the child account whose settings need to be edited.)

In addition, getting a "fix" for that type of situation is a very good suggestion. I would recommend going to
    Xbox Ideas
and submitting that suggestion for review there. If others think it's a worthy idea as well, then they'll likely pick up on it for voting at a later time. Thanks again!
