So to preface this, I take very good care of my electronics. I dust regularly, including that dusty white plastic residue that seems to get underneath the thumbsticks on these controllers. However, I am on my third (THIRD) Xbox One controller. The first
problem I noticed was how flimsy the side panels began to feel after normal use (normal being about 8 hours/week). But I can deal with that, I suppose, although it makes the $60/USD entrance fee a bit harder to swallow.

The biggest problem here are the thumbsticks (specifically the left one, in my case). Browsing Netflix, it will scroll up endlessly. In Destiny, I cannot navigate the menus properly. In Fifa, I will run up as soon as I switch players. In ANY game, I will
walk forward as soon as I stop moving. There is a problem when owning a 360 for nearly ten years, only one controller out of four had a faulty thumbstick that drifted, yet after owning a One for 11 months, all three controllers are completely useless.

There is a massive flaw in the quality of these controllers. The only solution I can think of that doesn't involve having to send them off to Microsoft (because lets be honest, I did that enough with the 360's RROD) is some form of calibration.
The dead zone is either too small, and it seems any looseness to the controller is affecting it drastically, or these controllers are just prone for failure without any sort of remedy.

TL;DR- Controller quality degrades rather fast. Thumbsticks drift. MS needs to increase deadzone, add controller calibration, or improve quality of parts used.

If anyone has any remedies for this that don't require sending my controller off (they'll only take my original controller, I'm SOL on my other two), I'm all ears. As of right now, I have a $500 Roku box.

    :)

    Xbox one controller dead zones

Anyone know if there is a fix coming to the controller dead zones and the little grey piece falling off the left thumbstick? I'we had to superglue the plastic piece back onto the thumbstick assembly twice but it does not fix the control drift.

Really kills the gaming experience Microsoft desperately needs to enable controller dead-zone calibration or improve the ... :(

My right joystick scrolls up by itself

You would need to replace the control or have it repaired/replaced by microsoft.

Either your control has stick drift/ghosting where it moves completely by itself or you have damaged the thumbstick sensor, Either way theres no way to reset this, the thumbstick sensor either needs replacing if your control has no warranty or you need to
    replace the controller.

Sorry to hear that you're having this problem with your controller. Although nothing like that is available at the moment you can create a post at the Feedback forums so the Xbox people can see it and possible take action on it.

Why is there no option in the console to control the dead zone of a controller stick?

    Hello Dylicious Dyl,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are experiencing an issue with the left stick of your controller, and you are looking for a solution to adjust the dead zone of the controller stick. This can be indeed a nuisance, especially when it affects your navigation on the device. Just to set proper expectation, I would like you to be aware that the Xbox accessories app on the console does not have an option to adjust the dead zone of the controller stick. Let's go ahead and check what we can do best to help address your concern today.

The ability to adjust the dead zone of a controller stick varies by console and sometimes even by the specific controller model. For example, the Xbox's Elite controller allows you to make a customer dead zone. However, this feature is not universally available across all consoles or controllers. There were some games provide options within their settings to adjust the controller's dead zone. This allows for customization on a game-by- game basis, which can be useful given that optimal dead zone settings can vary depending on the game.

There are few things you can try to apply on your end. See the following below:

    • Firstly, you can try recalibrating the controller. To do this, go to the Xbox accessories app on your console, select the controller you want to calibrate, and then select "Calibrate." Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration process.
    • If recalibrating the controller does not work, you can try cleaning the controller stick. Sometimes, dirt and debris can get stuck in the controller stick, causing it to malfunction. To clean the controller stick, use a soft-bristled brush or a toothbrush to gently clean around the stick. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as this can damage the controller.
    • Make sure that updates are installed.

If any case the issues persists, please allow us to know the following information:

    1. Is the issue presented on a particular game? Or it happened to all of the game?
    2. I assume your controller is up to date, right?
    3. Have you tried connecting your controller to another device like PC, or phone? Will the issue persist?

I hope this information helps you resolve the issue with your controller. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

    Kind regards,

How to Fix Xbox Controller Drift Issue?

    Hello Camie Paiz,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

The Xbox controller drift (also known as joystick drift) you're experiencing is a common problem, especially after prolonged use. Drift usually refers to the controller's joysticks (especially the left or right joysticks) moving on their own without any action, or triggering certain motions when there is no manual input. This problem is usually caused by wear and tear on the joystick sensors or buildup of debris such as dust.
A common cause of drift is the buildup of dust, grease, or dirt under the joystick, which can affect the performance of its sensors. The following methods can be used

    1. Clean the controller:
Turn off the controller and make sure it is not connected to any devices.
Use compressed air or a cotton swab (moistened with a small amount of alcohol) to gently clean the area around the joysticks, especially the edges of the joysticks and the sensor section.
You can also try using a microfiber cloth to clean the surface of the joysticks.

    2. Recalibrate the controller
Xbox controllers sometimes drift because they are not calibrated correctly, try recalibrating the controller:
Open Settings → Devices & Accessories.
Select your controller, click Configure, then select Calibrate and follow the on-screen prompts. 3.

    3. Check the deadband adjustment in Settings
Some Xbox controller drift issues may be caused by the controller's Dead Zone setting. The dead zone is the area of the controller that does not respond when the controller's joystick is not fully returned to center. By adjusting the Dead Zone, you may be able to reduce the effects of drift.
In some games, especially through the Xbox Accessories app, you can adjust the joystick's Dead Zone setting:
Download and open the Xbox Accessories app in the Microsoft Store.
Connect your controller and select it.
In the Settings menu, find the option for Joystick Deadband and try adjusting the deadband value to see if it alleviates the drifting issue.

Please feel free contact me if you need more help.

    Best regards
