It's a horrid situation to be in, you could login to the enforcement site with your lads credentials, then take a screen shot of it stating that its clean and no bans showing, they may except that.

buying pre owned always runs this risk and technically the shop should take it back but obviously they can argue that you got it banned.

Microsoft will not email evidence stating you have not had it banned as only the enforement team can do this and as its a console ban there is no way to contact them, support cannot assist as it is above the remit and they have no way of contacting the enforcement team either.

Thank you, I didn't know this when I bought it, I have never owned an xbox or any console before.

So there is no way of proving that my sons account has not been banned? They said they would take it back if we could prove it wasn't him that is banned. Is there any way of seeing the account that is banned?

When it's a console ban it's not exactly tied to an account ban. Because of privacy reasons, Microsoft would not let you know who was the person who got the console banned and as stated above, there is no way to contact the enforcement team regarding console bans and they are the ones who handle bans.
