Considering the people's complaints on how long it takes to download a game, I think I'll be waiting on the digital revolution as well.

    .

In addition to this, digital only is pretty pathetic since we've only been given 500GB of space to store these files, and there's absolutely no way to verify the amount of space left until the system tells you.

    .

Imagine, downloading 5.7GB of a game that's 6.2GB in size and THEN the system tells you no more space is available.

    .

This design wasn't planned out by Microsoft at all.

Considering to make them cheaper? They should be cheaper than physical discs in the first place! Company's like EA/Activision dream that one day consoles with be digial online. I have no issues with a digital only console. But not when they think its ok
charging £55 for Battlefield or Call Of Duty ect.

This is what I think should start happening. Price the disc based games at RRP £45. Then a digital version of the same title for RRP £39.99 on PSN/XBL ect. Then here is the kicker and do what Steam does. Allow retailers like Getgamesgo,Amazon,GAME,Green Man
Gaming sell the game keys/codes at what ever price they want.

Here is a perfect example in what I mean. Thief 4 comes out next month on Steam it costs £26.99 if you want to get it directly from Steam. If you wanted a physical one it would cost you £28 delivered from

    Amazon
. But if you go to
    GreenManGaming
using a discount code (provided by GMG) you can a key for Thief to redeem on Steam for £18. This is the future I would like to see. It works on PC now so why not consoles?

It's been my experience when someone tells you they're going to do something "soon" but doesn't give a date it's often a little fuzzy as to whether they mean "soon" as in it will soon be next month or "soon" as in one day soon our sun shall grow cold and
no longer be able to heat the Earth.

@ MGF ... That much? lol ... Seriously though, I wonder if we could be surprised and they knock more off than we expect? I mean Microsoft really want as many as possible to go digital and the only way it could work is if they go a fair bit lower than we
    pay for physical copies.

@ Az ... Hopefully before our sun starts to expand lol

I'd buy digitally if they were priced better in a shot. Was tempted to get Creed digitally, but the 55 quid price put me off. Especially as I got a limited edition one for that price in game.

Obviously their is pros / cons when buying digitally so it would make a whole lot of sense for the digital version to be quite a bit cheaper than buying a disc. Microsoft and sense in the same sentence though ???

  10. With online passes disappearing there's the prices in pre-owned market to consider too, also the fact that as time passes the cost of games in-store drops....

MS would have to start at a lower price than retail and then drop prices of games on an individual basis as time went on or at least have regular substantial sales.

    .

Along side lower prices I'd like to see something like PSNs "full game trials". Maybe let people download a game and play the first hour for free (with cheevs and maybe saving disabled).

    .

Pre-loading (pre-ordering) of digital titles is also something that needs to happen.

    .

MS need to do quite a bit of stuff to make digital purchasing more appealing and worth while.

    .

(oh yeah, and sorting USB storage so games can be installed to there as well)

If they did lower the price i could see a price war starting.

And it could kill off are remaining game shops in towns centers round the contry.

Thats one of the reasons with i still goto the shop to buy my games and not just buy online

But hay if the price is wright

I thought Microsoft already said that they want to maintain a decent relationship with retailers. Undercutting their prices would be a good way to upset them.

I'm sure the retailers would survive.... They'd just have to be more competitive on pricing

That will be necessary, if they want me to give up an asset (the disc).

[/quote] Exactly - when I'm done with my games I sell them on EBAY and get average of $30 for them. Digital games have no packaging, no manuals, don't have to be shipped, don't have to be sold by a middleman retailer, and have ZERO resale value. You would have
to be near retarded to buy a digital game for anything more than $30.

I hope this news is true because for me this is literally the sole reason to go to PS4. Right now I can go to Amazon.com and buy several digital PS4 codes at a much cheaper price than those offered on the MS store.

For a lot of gamers, getting a good price for the games you want is hugely important and right now PS4 is winning that battle by a long shot. MS should not underestimate the importance of this issue.

I don't know how many times i said that on various threads, way before the X1 was released.

    -

What you need are an Amazon, Play.com, Origin, and any other retailer app on the X1, with the facility of all of these to offer Digital Download to your X1 from their servers.

    -

This would then initiate, a price competition situation for digital game downloads, and specific digital retailers could offer different release day bonuses. You could then compare all of these prices, while you are looking at the Microsoft store, and see
which is the cheapest, or which is offering the best add-ons or extras.

    -

It would smash the market wide open, and help the consumer out no end, with loads more extra choice.

I think if they do make digital cheaper they should drop the street dates on retail discs. When a store gets it, let them sell it for full price. Then release it digitally on release date for cheaper. It would keep retailers happy and we would have a choice
to go out and get it right away or wait a few days to save.

I still don't think going all digital is worth it unless you 100% know you will love it and play it for at least 3 years.

At least with a disc, if you grow bored you can pass is along.

Only good thing about games on demand being more expensive is it encourage people to still buy from shops and for the second hand market.

But if it is a game I wanted and it's cheaper to download, then I'd quite happy to buy it from the Xbox store.
