Microsoft Card from the US being used in Canada

I received a card as a gift from a friend in the US , tried to use it here in canada and cannot due to region restrictions. Microsoft already has told me that the only way is to get your friend to exchange it. But was wondering if i got him to log on into
my account in the US and use the code would and me use it here would it work?

Sense in Canada debit cards will never work they have my credit card but I use Microsoft points to keep track of how much I am spending so I will put on like 100-150 then buy some stuff when it gets low add more to it

In Canada the only 2 provinces they don't charge tax is Ontario and quebec, where they still have retail stores, from what I get they consider any digital purchases as using a gift card (even if you use a credit card) and a gift card is not taxable its a nice loophole they abuse in those provinces

Those are region looked. And need a US accout used the funds of the card. If it was gold. It might work with your account. But not money cards.

 

Money cards are region locked. You can switch your region in settings to the US and redeem the code that way.

 

I don't think they can sign into your account on another console, in another country, in order for that card to be validated. Your account is set in Canada and that's how it's locked. Using it in the US won't activate the card unfortunately.

Set your region to US and use the card to top up the account. But you also have to spend the money on the US digital market because you cannot transfer the virtual money between different regions. But if you buy a game on the US market it will still work
when you switch back to Canada because the games them self are region free.
