    Back when the Xbox One X device came out, I pre-ordered it a couple months in advance. At the time I pre-ordered it I used my credit card. I had just over a hundred dollars in my account at that time and so I called up Microsoft and asked if it would use
    that money up and then go to my credit card. I was told it would.

    Then my credit card was stolen. I though oh man - I hope this doesn't affect my pre-order. So, I decided to just buy microsoft gift cards - enough to purchase my xbox one x. So, I did that and redeemed the cards. I then called Microsoft and told them
    that I wanted to switch the payment to my microsoft balance. The lady said she couldn't switch it but that she could cancel the order and then reorder it for me with the microsoft balance. She proceeded to do that.

    I thought I was good to go. The xbox one x came out and I waited for a notification that my xbox one x was shipping. Well, it never came. It just kept saying pending. so, I called Microsoft and they told me to let it go a day because they were behind.
    I waited, I called back. They said there must be a bug in the system so they tried to help me but they couldn't. Then I was told that I couldn't use a microsoft balance to purchase hardware. So, I asked them to refund the gift cards back to my credit card
    and they told me it had been over a month and they couldn't.

    I called everyone at microsoft I could think of and no one could help me - they just kept passing me around. So, I gave up. My account has to this day over $400 dollars left on it. I'm pretty upset because someone from microsoft told me a could use my
    balance and then another person from Microsoft actually switch the payment to microsoft balance. How in the world can that happen if it isn't allowed? I have screen shots to show that it said microsoft balance and actually it's still in my history - Aug
    21, 2017.

    Well - flash forward to today. I have a Microsoft account that I sign in to when I'm online on my computers and you can earn microsoft rewards points that can be redeemed for a bunch of different things. One of the things you can earn is a xbox gift card.
    So, I've done this many times - earn up enough points and then request that gift card code. It comes in an email with the 25 digit code. I give my code to my son's account because there is no way I want to add money to my account. He enters the code and
    uses it. After doing this several times in the past, today I request the xbox gift card and instead of sending me an email with the code it just directly applies it to my account and shows it as a 10.00 refund under miscellaneous credit. No code was sent
    in the email - just puts it on my account and says it's going to expire in 3 months.

    so, call microsoft up and of course nothing can be done about it. I can't even transfer the money to my son's account so he can buy a fortnite pass?

    This is my last attempt at getting help. There has to be something someone can do to help me out...

    How to check your Xbox MSP expiry dates

    I've seen some comments on this elsewhere in the forums, and while someone may have posted this before now, I've certainly not seen it.

    For those unaware and concerned over their Microsoft points expiring, you can check the exact date that they expire. Sign into Xbox.com with your gamertag, click My Account at top right, goto Billing History and then click the Payment Options tab, this will display your recent Microsoft points purchases and their expiration date. Naughty, naughty, Microsoft. :nono:

    All Microsoft points will expire 12-mths after their redeemed date. It's not just the points that you had on your account before they were converted to real currency, Microsoft points that you can still currently buy today will also expire after 12-mths.

    If you don't like Microsoft vapourising your virtual money then you'd be best to stick to the new Xbox Gift Cards, but with Xbox One and day-1 digital right around the corner I am sure most of us will use this money up before it gets checked out and placed into BillyG's bank account.

    And here's another bit of info from the FAQ, I'll bolden the interesting bit. It mainly states whenever you buy anything Microsoft automatically use the money that is closest to expiring.

    The money would hav been directly added to your account balance. You would need to choose your Microsoft account balance as your payment option.

    Since the code is from the Microsoft Rewards program, you could try contacting their customer
    support     to see if there is anything they could do to possibly resend it as a code instead, but since it is already on your account, usually that would fall under Xbox's billing department which you already spoke to.

    Refund

    The money will be refunded to your Microsoft account balance, not to the card. The card was only used to add money to your Microsoft account.

    It can take a few days for the refund process to be completed. Normally it takes up to 3 to 5 days for this.

    But since the money was taken from your Microsoft account balance, it will get back there, not to the gift card.

    Really, Microsoft account balance method this is like a scam. You transfer money across from a parent account to allow a child account to "buy apps" responsibly - apps owned by Microsoft - and now the balance there is useless because, wait for it, you can't use it. Total waste of money! You can't even transfer the balance to another family account. Hopeless.
