Microsoft account switch - Error 8016FE6D

Hi !

I have some issues with my microsoft account.

So, actually i have two accounts. Account A, with the good gamertag i try to switch, and account B, which is empty.

The problem is, when i connect to the xbox, and follow the steps to change the account, when i'm asked to continue to proceed the changes, i get : Error 8016FE6D that says something like : an error occured with the xbox live ...

What can i do to fix this ?

I have also the same Error 8016FE6D. I was following the guideline here:
support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

but failed on the above error.

the new account I want to switch to is "empty" means no gamertag associated with.

Did anyone got a solution or reply on this yet?

 

Switch a gamertag to another Microsoft account

When attempting to switch my gamertag to another Microsoft account, I am given the following error:

Sorry, there's a problem with the Xbox service. Try again later. For help with this problem, go to www.xbox.com/errorhelp.

Status code: 8016FE6D

I have attempted to do this with both the account I would like it to switch to and a freshly created dummy account.

 

Oh, and i don't have any money on my gamertag, so that's couldn't be the cause of my problem.

 

1 Microsoft Account Email can not have 2 Gamertag's associated to it and yes, make sure you have no Microsoft Currency (MSFT Points, Xbox Cash, etc.) when you change your emails.

Follow these instructions:

support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

Keep in mind that your new Microsoft Account Email that you want to use on your current Gamertag, MUST have its Security Proofs and Billing Information associated to it at account.live.com and have been ACTIVE for at least 30 days, without a Gamertag already
associated to it, prior to changing the Microsoft Account email associated to your Gamertag. If you did already make a Gamertag to it, then you have to create a new Microsoft Account Email, add/verify proofs, 30 days to use that new one.

I followed everything you said, and that SHOULD work, but no ... I still have this 8016FE6D error that make no sense ... I really don't know what to do ...

Why is this question marked as answered? The user is still having this problem, and it's also one a number of people are having that has still yet to be solved.

I've been having this issue myself. First Xbox support chat rep told me it was because of my Office subscriptions and had me first switch it to a new "dummy" account, wait the 30 days, then move it to the account I wanted (which was definitely over 30 days
old, didn't have an Xbox association, etc.). Tried that but still got the same 8016FE6D error message. Went back to chat support and this rep had me try clearing the system cache and doing a hard reboot first and trying it one last time. Once again, it gave
the same message. This was what the rep then told me:

"Drat. I'm reading up on this error code and it is looking like a whole new world of error codes. The issue needs to be escalated. Though, currently we are unable to do escalations through chat. I would have you call in and (sadly explain the situation one
more time) But just basically tell them that you need to get the issue escalated for a broken account. From there, they might try some troubleshooting, though I hope not, because everything that I am reading here just basically says to get Microsoft to look
at it and have the Advocacy team handle it."

So it's pretty much the error code from hell. As you can see from what I was told, the only thing they could tell me to do at this point was call to have this issue escalated and that the more people who call in about it and have it escalated, then the more
likely the "big dogs" in the company will give it attention. Here's the number for the support team I was given: 1-800-469-9269. Make sure that when you call you get them to escalate the issue. Maybe if they get bugged to death over it somebody will finally
fix it.

Well we discovered in another thread about this code that at least 3 of us have the same thing behind it: both a personal account and business account profiles in our billing information. At least one person had this fixed already. The other and myself are
still waiting on our cases to get escalated to tier 3 support to have it fixed. What needs to be done is that either the business profile must be deleted or merged into the personal one. But apparently only higher level Xbox support are capable of doing this.

Now here's how to find out if this is also the same reason you're getting this code: go to commerce.microsoft.com while signed into the account you want to move your gamertag to. In the top right corner of the page under your name you should see US - Personal
Account (or your own country's name instead of US if you don't live here). If you can click this and there's a drop down that shows [insert your country here] - Business Account, then you also have multiple billing profiles which prevents you from moving your
gamertag to that account. The business profile is the result of transactions or subscriptions that Microsoft deems as business type such as Office 365 University subscriptions, installing the developer preview of Windows 8.1 on your phone, etc.

So far the only course of action is to contact Xbox support and have them escalate it to tier 3 support so this can be fixed. One person has had this fixed that we know of, the rest of us are still waiting on it.

 

After following the steps I provided, if you are still having the same error code. Contact Support. Your Microsoft Account Email is broken. Xbox Support will gather the required information from you and escalate to Tier 3 department. Give them sometime
to work on it and they will email you back with the issue being resolved. More than just 1 person has had this error occur and fixed by contacting Xbox Support. I hope this helps.

 

I also have this error 8016FE6D have already spent more than two months, and still nothing is solved. I called technical service and do not know how to fix it.

I'm really tired that nobody by the xbox can give me an answer to this case.

 

If you are getting this error 8016FE6D, contact Xbox Support so they can escalate your issue to T3.

There may not have been a fix 2 months ago, but now there is... Just call them back. Things change. Eventually, after troubleshooting these issues, a fix comes available. Does that make sense? We all have to work together to figure out these new errors
and what is the best resolution. If you just complain and not work with the process, then you are only causing more frustration on yourself...
