Microsoft account sign-in help!

My brother was trying to play on the xbox when he was prompted to put in the password to the account and change it. No biggie, (since being forced to change your password with no other options is okay with most people I guess) except I dont know it. When I try to reset it on my computer I get the recovery code done from my backup email but I dont have the number linked to the email or the authenticator app set up so I cant check off a 2nd verification. What can I do to log back into my account with only half of my 2 step verification, if possible? or am I going to have to face a grim reality of losing my 14+ year old xbox account?

I saw an option to disable all security options after I verified my backup email but I am afraid of doing it and losing further access to my xbox email by removing my back up email and not knowing the current password. I don't mine waiting the 30 days and not using my email but I will be heartbroken if I cannot log back into the account.

Dont know if it matters but its also a hotmail/outlook account linked to the xbox account

In this case you have two option. The first one is to remove the security information and wait 30 days. You can learn more about this here => Microsoft account security info & verification codes. Keep in mind that that I can't confirm or deny if this would grant you access to your account later because we are not the team who investigates this. However, the account progress is linked to the primary email and not the backup one so you won't be losing the progress of your account if the email gets deleted (unless it's the primary one).

The second option is to submit an account recovery form (Recover your account (live.com)). To learn more about how you can do so, access this (section: Tips for completing the account recovery form) => Reset or recover your lost Microsoft account password | Xbox Support.

We can't confirm if the account recovery form will get you back your account because again, we are not the team responsible for investigating; However, I would advise you to go with this one if you have the necessary information requested in the form.

I can't do the account recovery form because I have the 2-step enabled. I am not afraid of my account progression being removed as you said but more so I am afraid of losing access to my account all together and in return lose everything I have for my Xbox. Who should I ask about the 30 day security reset since you aren't the correct team associated?

Theo, Microsoft does not keep a record of the sites where the user links an account, so instead you should check with Minecraft support directly and PSN support. Only they can determine the account associated with your profile within that platform and game.

Hi there,

it's not possible to physically move a Xbox Live account to a different Microsoft Account.

The only thing currently possible is to change the email address to sign in on a Microsoft Account.
