Microsoft account required to play with a local profile?

Just download a required update on Xbox 360 and now my daughter seems to need a Microsoft account to play with her local profile? She's been playing with this local profile for years and she doesn't have an email account. Is there a way around this? Why
does she need this for her local profile?!

Cannot buy games with backward compatibility (Trial Gold)

Hi there,

There are two possible reasons why you are seeing this error:

1. You have the locale on your console set to the wrong region. You can set your region in the Settings screen under Language and Location.

2. Your Xbox account setting is wrong. Which means you chose the wrong country when you set up your account originally. If that is the case, please follow this

An Xbox Live Gold account is not required to purchase any games or apps on the console, including backwards compatible titles.

The only time a Gold account is required to download and play backwards compatible games is when said game is being offered as a 'Games with Gold' item. Games with Gold are for paying subscribers only, they can not be downloaded with trial account.

Playing with a different local account with xbox live?

My daughter and I really love this game. She wants to be able to play with her own account so she can use her own handle and level up on her own accord. But if we try to play with her local account, it says "xbox live is required" and won't use my xbox live
account. Don't tell me I have to pay for two xbox live accounts so she can play using her login?

Idk...just to see what would happen I just created a local profile! I entered name, picked an avatar then selected 'create profile'. Never did it ask for email. But now I will sign into it and see what happens...

Some games will let you play local co-op but unfortunately not all of them. Some like diablo, will require a second family member account that you add to your family profile account. And the gameplay in the case of diablo is shared screen. Other game in the case of Borderland or minecraft will be a split screen. If you browse le microsoft game list select filter local coop or local multiplayer you will have a list of game that you will be able to enjoy with your wife. I really enjoy a friendly coop of borderland with my wife every now and then.

on xbox 360, its possible to just create an xbox profile that is not in turn a "Microsoft Account" so that way your children can play offline and have separate game saves, but to connect to xbox live and play online (multiplayer & and purchasing content)
the xbox profile must sign up for Xbox Live.

If a user signs up for Xbox Live, a Microsoft account is required (emails are required for this). If the user is under the age of 18, then an additional Microsoft account must be created to monitor the child account. Xbox one has changed the way profiles
are created, if you try to create an account it will automatically try and setup a Microsoft account.

Thank you both for your prompt responses, but I suspect I was unclear in my original post. I have the following:

Online Microsoft Account not related to any XBOX gamertag.
Local XBOX profile with no online gamertag as it is only local to the single XBOX 360.

The plan is to have the local XBOX profile be connected to the Microsoft account. I am unable to follow HFAI's suggestion as it looks to be based on already having an online XBOX profile. I am not looking to transfer anything - I just want to have the
local XBOX account connected to a Microsoft account.

Many years ago I was able to take my local XBOX profile and connect it to my Microsoft account, but the process I followed at that time no longer works. I thought I could simply be in the local profile on the XBOX and then choose to sign into the Microsoft
account, but I do not see the option to do that though I could be missing it. While I noted the child details, I don't believe this connection
has any relation to child or parent Microsoft accounts as it should just be having an XBOX account that I then log into the Microsoft account.

Hope this clears things up a bit and thanks for the quick responses.
