microsoft account balance isn't showing up in store

added a gift card and the balance is showing in my account but when we go to the store on xbox one the money doesn't. show up please help

Xbox Live Gold memberships cannot be purchased with Microsoft Account balance, but with a credit card on file instead. Microsoft Account balance can be used on purchases within the Xbox Store.

How to check your Xbox MSP expiry dates

I've seen some comments on this elsewhere in the forums, and while someone may have posted this before now, I've certainly not seen it.

For those unaware and concerned over their Microsoft points expiring, you can check the exact date that they expire. Sign into Xbox.com with your gamertag, click My Account at top right, goto Billing History and then click the Payment Options tab, this will display your recent Microsoft points purchases and their expiration date. Naughty, naughty, Microsoft. :nono:

All Microsoft points will expire 12-mths after their redeemed date. It's not just the points that you had on your account before they were converted to real currency, Microsoft points that you can still currently buy today will also expire after 12-mths.

If you don't like Microsoft vapourising your virtual money then you'd be best to stick to the new Xbox Gift Cards, but with Xbox One and day-1 digital right around the corner I am sure most of us will use this money up before it gets checked out and placed into BillyG's bank account.

And here's another bit of info from the FAQ, I'll bolden the interesting bit. It mainly states whenever you buy anything Microsoft automatically use the money that is closest to expiring.

Are you trying to purchase a backward compatible game? Also are you on an xbox one?

You can also try a
Power Cycle on the console. If that don't help you can also try to Uninstall and re-install
the profile.

Yes we are on xbox one and were trying to purchase Star Wars Battlefront 2. It didn't matter what game I clicked to "buy" on the store on the xbox one it wasn't showing the amount I actually had in my Microsoft account.

I tried a power cycle and it didn't fix the problem. I ended up logging on and buying it from the Microsoft store using the web and downloading it that way. It is not at all convenient though and the problem should be looked into.

Thank you for responding, since Star Wars Battlefront II is a backwards compatible game, it is unavailable to purchase on the store using a Microsoft Account Balance from an Xbox One. If available, using an Xbox 360 would be an option to purchase the item
with a Microsoft Account Balance though.

That is very odd that you can not purchase it on an xbox one since it wasn't even released in a disc form for the xbox 360. It is very confusing to see it listed as a 75% discount for xbox live on the xbox one if you can't even purchase it through there.
But despite that our balance still isn't showing the correct amount and it doesn't matter what game we click on through the store on the xbox one.

No I didn't see an error message it just didn't let me buy it because it was showing I didn't have enough funds in the store on xbox one. But when I went into my account settings the money was there. I ended up buying it on the web through the Microsoft
website so obviously the funds were there. For some reason the xbox one store is not linking and updating the account properly.

I'd be happy to provide some input.

Now that you have purchased the game and the funds were deducted from the account, is your Xbox now showing the current balance or is it still off?

Based on your description, it seems just the Xbox was not showing your correct funds but your account online was showing the correct amount, hence how you were able to purchase it online.

From that, it may be the Microsoft Store app on the Xbox needs to be updated. If there is no update available for the Microsoft Store under
Updates from My Games & Apps, then the operating system is having trouble getting that data from the servers.

If your balance is still not showing the correct amount on your Xbox, I would suggest performing a

soft factory reset to restore the operating system and clear out any corruption without deleting your content.
Please make sure before you select the option to reset your Xbox that you have your email and password to the correct account in question as it will remove all accounts from the Xbox and you will need to re-download
them to the Xbox during the set up. Make sure to select Keep My Games & Apps when it gives you the option.
