  1. Microsoft Account and linked gamertag nightmares

    Hello,

This is my first time posting and I come here in hopes that someone with a bit of know how can help with a long running issue I have been having.

The issue is related to my gamertag which is linked to my brothers main email account and has been for 10 years and I would like to transfer it to one of my own email addresses so I can log in with my own email and password.

I have contacted live support with this and the solutions they provide include creating an alias and then removing the unwanted email which in turn deletes it completely, this solution is not an option for me as my brother has had this same
email address for longer than 10 years and has used it for various important things online that he would then lose access to.

It seems to me the main issue with all of this is that it is an old problem with no modern solutions, I did some research online to find people with the same problems on xbox 360 on which there were actually options to fix this and transfer accounts on that
console but the support pages here now state those methods are obsolete. I don't know why splitting an xbox profile from a microsoft account completely destroys the email account it was tied to.

The outcome I would hope for would be for me to get my gamertag onto my email address and my brothers email address undergo no changes and we can both go on doing our own thing without being linked.

However if that is not an option I would settle for some kind of situation where my brother keeps his emails and I log into xbox using an alias, but currently the security restrictions microsoft employs sometimes flag the account because two people log in
to the same account on multiple devices in very different locations (My brother works abroad sometimes) then he has to send me security codes and new passwords etc so I can continue using my xbox profile. I feel that aspect of security is only going to improve
or get worse for my perspective so I guess a pretty firm solution is needed before that happens.

    Extra Information:

My xbox account contains 10 years worth of purchases, achievements and friends so I also don't want to lose that.

I have a very old second xbox account linked to one of my email addresses that I don't use, I figure this may help in some way to prevent the deletion of an email address if it can be moved over?

    :)

Ran into an issue with backwards compatible games. (Please Help.)

Your old gamertag is in the xbox 360 cache you have to go to settings and remove the linked account before you can add the new one. This happened to me 2 when i changed the lame tag microsoft assigned me. Even if you put the correct information and passcodes ot wont download your new gamertag until you remove the old linked account

First of all I do want to apologize that this has been such a hassle. I have a good idea of all the process you have done so far in regards to this. After reading the information you provided my understanding is the following:

    • Your Xbox Account is associated to your brothers email.
    • You wish to associate your email with the Xbox Account.

    Also, you mentioned that
    Live Support
mentioned that to remove the email his must be deleted so, I'm assuming it's a Microsoft email?
If so, Please note that if you wish to change your
email and If the primary email is any Microsoft domain such as
    live, Hotmail, outlookyou
will lose the emailonce it has been changed.

Meaning once you change the email and if you used the email for work, personal or anything else, you
won't be able to use it any longer.

If you're still looking into the option of signing on the Xbox with a different email alias to avoid the security troubles you've had then in that case the only option
available apart from changing the email address on the account, would be to create a new account.
As there is no way of being able to switch up the emails on the account without the current primary email being deleted.

  5. Thanks for the reply,

Yes it is a Microsoft email.

So as you mention that removing the account deletes it if I add an alias and use that to sign in on my xbox and I keep both emails on there will I be able to sign in on xbox with the new email without the security issues and my brother be free to continue
    using his email account?

    Hi Jack,

Thanks for replying to us to keep us updated. Since the primary alias (your brother's email) is a Microsoft account, I would recommend NOT deleting it so that he can continue to use it. You can definitely leave the email address attached to the account as
a back up email (for verification purposes, etc) and are not required to delete the email address from your profile totally since you'd like him to still have access to his email.

If you'd like further information regarding the changing of the alias, our support article entitled

I hope that this clears things up and helps out a bit more.

  7. Thanks I have read the article and I am probably going to add an alias on the account and leave his email there too so it is safe.

Just to confirm that I have read this correctly, I will be able to sign in on the xbox using the alias even if it is not primary? I don’t really want to make the new alias primary and assume control of the account. I simply just want to change the linked
email and reduce the security issues on the account.

Hey Jack thanks for keeping in touch!

Short answer yes, if the account has an alias set up you can sign into the Xbox profile with it without deleting your brothers account. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes and feel free to let us know of any more arising issues!
