Microphone Too Quite On WINDOWS 11 when connecting through 3.5mm jack on Xbox Series X...

The microphone is too Quite when connecting through 3.5mm jack on Xbox Series X controller on WINDOWS 11 . I tried both Wired and with wireless adapter. The others can barley hear me.

I tried multiple headsets with same issue and I tried connecting these headsets to a ps4 controller's 3.5mm and they work perfectly.

The mic volume gain in sound settings is 100%. Currently I am using 3rd party software VoiceMeeter to increase mic gain but would like to resolve this issue and would like to know if it is just me or if all Xbox controllers have this issue.

    :)

    Hello Pin-07,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your microphone volume when using your Xbox Series X controller on Windows 11. I understand that you have tried different headsets and connection methods, but the issue persists.

To help you troubleshoot this problem, I would like to ask you a few questions:

    - Have you updated your controller firmware to the latest version? You can do this by connecting your controller to your console or PC and going to Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

    - Have you checked the audio settings on your Windows 11 PC? You can do this by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar and selecting Sound settings. Make sure that the input device is set to your controller and that the input level is not too low.

    - Have you tried adjusting the microphone monitoring level on your controller? You can do this by pressing the Xbox button on your controller and going to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories. Select your controller and then select Volume. Use the slider to increase or decrease the microphone monitoring level.

Not all 3.5mm audio jacks are made to the same standard. There are two audio jack standards:

    • Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and
    • Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP)
If you use an OMTP headset, you’ll probably experience audio or chat issues. However, if your headset or earbuds use the OMTP standard, you can purchase an adapter to convert the device to CTIA. These adapters are available at many electronic retail stores.

The following images show the differences in the CTIA and OMTP standards. The CTIA standard has the microphone section of the jack closer to the end of the cable while the OMTP standard has the ground section of the jack closer to the end of the cable.

    CTIA

Microphone Too Quite On WINDOWS 11 when connecting through 3.5mm jack on Xbox Series X controller. Both Wired and with wireless adapter.

    Hi CarTzy,

Thank you for trying to help me. Most of the things I had already tried but forgot to include in my original message. Here is my reply to your suggestions.

Have you updated your controller firmware to the latest version?

Yes I have updated the controller through windows Xbox accessories app. This made no improvement.

Have you checked the audio settings on your Windows 11 PC?

Yes I have, every setting is maxed out at 100%. And I tried both from the newer win 11 audio settings screens and also from the older control panel screens. I am also sure I was looking at the correct Microphone settings.

Not all 3.5mm audio jacks are made to the same standard. There are two audio jack standards:

    • Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and
    • Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP)
I am familiar with the differences between these standards and I also have this adapter. However if you use the wrong standard, the mic wouldn't work as it would be connected to the ground instead, and the audio would have heavy distortions because there would be no ground connected. In my case both audio and mic quality are perfect, it is just the mic volume is low.

Have you tried adjusting the microphone monitoring level on your controller? You can do this by pressing the Xbox button on your controller and going to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories. Select your controller and then select Volume. Use the slider to increase or decrease the microphone monitoring level.

I am unsure how to do this on a windows 11 PC as I do not see these options. These settings seem to be on XBOX only and unfortunately I do not own an XBOX yet, only the controller. I assume that the issue might be a setting of the controller itself but I cannot seem to find any settings pertaining to the controller. Could you advise on how to do this without an Xbox?

Xbox USB audio devices - please support

    Hello SamuliVälimäki how are you?

My name is Ezequiel I'm an Independent Consultant.

Yes, it is possible for you to make it work, but it is a little more difficult than on the PlayStation.

To connect the HyperX Quadcast to your Xbox Series X, you will need a few accessories. Firstly, you will need a 3.5mm male to male audio cable. Secondly, you will need a Y splitter cable that has one 3.5mm female jack and two 3.5mm male jacks. Finally, you will need an Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

    Step-by-Step Guide

Connect one end of the 3.5mm male to male audio cable to the headphone jack of the HyperX Quadcast microphone.

Connect the other end of the 3.5mm male to male audio cable to the female jack of the Y splitter cable.

Connect the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter to the Xbox Series X controller.

Connect one of the male jacks of the Y splitter cable to the audio input of the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

Connect your headset to the other male jack of the Y splitter cable.

Turn on your Xbox Series X and the HyperX Quadcast microphone.

Go to the audio settings of your Xbox Series X and select the audio input device as “Headset mic (HyperX Quadcast)”.

    Blue snowball

Since the Blue Snowball is an USB microphone, it does NOT work with the Xbox One currently.

Only microphones that plug into the analogue 3.5mm jack of the controller will work. Also make sure, that when you want to use a standard 3.5mm jack microphone, that you will need an adapter that puts the microphone and ground contact at the correct position
    with a CTIA adapter.
