I myself have had the same situation, and I understand it can be frustrating. If you press the highlighted Xbox button in the middle of your controller, then right bumper click over to settings, go down to audio here you will find some available options.
Also there are additional audio settings under the main settings menu. If you are referring to this same problem happening on your mixer screen, you can adjust your audio settings under the mixer chat options and settings.

Try Setting up a headset adapter. This helps if the 3.5mm socket
is faulty on the controller and also Update your controller firmware
are two support links for further steps to take.

Make sure to update every controller.

I dont know of any issues as of now with turtle beach headsets. Is this a new occurrence or has the headset mic never worked? I'm guessing this headset has to plugged into the controller? Turtle beach makes at least 6 headsets for xbox one right now. Not including
about 20 older models. All ranging from wired to wireless to combination. Might try plugging in something else that has an inline mic like earbuds to see if those work. Of it is a corded headset those cords tend to get worn out and sometimes will need to be
replaced.
