Microphone permanently muted

I am at my wits end. I am an Xbox novice- my son uses the console. For the past 6 months he cannot 'speak' on his headset. We have had 2 replacements headsets. That didn't work. Tried 3 other controllers, that's not the problem. Just plugged in a replacement
console and we still have the same problem. Is this an account issue? It is on my account and his. The old fashioned microphone sign with a 'no entry' symbol next to it.. Can anyone help?

Do you have your Kinect Microphone muted? If it's muted it won't work.

Hi, in party there is a setting to mute your microphone, if that is pressed it mutes your microphone without turning the light on the headset on.

Check in your party settings to see if your microphone is muted. If this works for you or if you need more help, post a reply!

The microphone is muted, not the headset.

The headset and microphone works on another xbox and controller.

I have tried it on 2 controllers on the bone that is muted.

Check to see if the microphone on the headset is muted. Some headsets have a mute button on the headset itself or on the cable.

To check if the microphone on your headset is muted, follow these steps:

Open the "Settings" application.
Select "Sound & Display".
Select "Audio".
Select "Microphone".
Check the "Microphone Mute" button. If the button is on, the microphone is muted.

Check your console's audio settings. Make sure that the headset microphone is selected as the audio input device.

Select "Input Devices".
Make sure that the headset microphone is selected as the input device.

You can also test the headset on another version of the console. If the microphone works on another version of the console, then the problem is related to your console version. In this case, it is possible that your console is not compatible with your headset.
