Microphone not detected

My Xbox One S refuses to detect any microphone on a wired headset. The mic worked fine, now when in a party, the Xbox shows that no microphone is detected. I've tried all of the following troubleshooting steps:

Tried 2 different 3.5mm wired headsets on 2 different wireless controllers. Both mics work fine when attached to my computer.

Tried 2 different user profiles.

Powered off the Xbox and removed the power cable for 10 mins before turning on again, whilst both controllers also had their batteries removed for the same period.

Factory reset the Xbox (keeping games).

The mics worked for ages before stopping. I know that the mics are not broken as they work on my PC, I find it hard to believe that both wireless controllers have stopped working at exactly the same time. No permissions changes have been made to either
of the profiles that I have tested. I am convinced that the issue is with the Xbox or it's config. but I cannot find any troubleshooting suggestions that I have not already tried. Can anyone think of anything that I can try other spend money on a new controller
when I doubt it will make any difference?

Okay, I just discovered an issue:

The Xbox Stereo Headset's microphone does NOT work when connected via a USB hub, even if it's the only device attached to the USB hub. The microphone is detected, but it does not detect any sound in the volume meter.

As soon as I plug my Xbox One controller directly into the Surface Pro 2, the microphone immediately detects sound.

Thanks Alpha Soulneed, I've attempted to update the controllers wirelessly on the Xbox and on a USB via our PC. They are both already up to date.

Is there a way to factory reset a controller?

Hello again, try to check if your microphone has a CTIA connection standard, if it is OMTP it will not work, as the pin connection standard at Microsoft is CTIA.

Hello Thanosischunky, did your mic never work or did it work and then stopped working?

Another thing that can influence is the connection standard of your headset, so that it can work on the Xbox it needs to be of the CTIA standard.
