    Microphone/headset issues

    Hi

My headset, which is unknown to me but it has Game’s branding on it, has suddenly stopped working for its use as a microphone and for volume. So, I’d thought I’d replace it but found out that in-game volume works fine, but I can’t hear party volume nor does
the xbox even recognised there is someone’s speaking (when their ring lights up around their icon). I plugged in another pair of headphones and it does the same - able to hear in game volume but not party chat on the sound of moving from selection to selection.

    Thanks

    :)

Is the microphone for this headset in-line (on the actual headset cable)? I know for other headsets this means the microphone won't work for the Xbox One.

Astro A50 GEN 1 or 2 mic doesnt pick up my voice talking in party chat

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the microphone on your Astro A50 headset. However, we need to isolate the issue for us to conclude the issue to be for specific microphone.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Make sure the microphone is not muted. There is a button on the headset that allows you to mute and unmute the microphone.

    2. Check the microphone volume. There is a dial on the headset that allows you to adjust the volume of the microphone.

    3. Try resetting the headset. To do this, hold down the power button on the headset for 15 seconds, then release it.

    4. Check the connections. Make sure the headset is properly connected to the Xbox Series X.

    5. Try using a different USB port on the Xbox Series X.

    6. Test your Astro A50 headset on a phone or PC, see if you can record a voice message or else use it on your apps.

    6. Use different headphones to your console and test if issue happens.

If issue persists for these specific headsets, it could be compatibility issue and considering upgrade of Gen 4 could be beneficial for your setup. Or else, it may be necessary to contact Astro customer support for further assistance.

However, if this issue persists for all headset/headphone/microphone, let us know. Should you be getting an error message, please post it on your next reply.

    Sincerely,

    Headset microphone issues.

Hello, JUSTINALDERSON. I'm Lucas, an independent Microsoft Xbox user. I'll do my best to try to help you.

Which game is your wife playing that no one is hearing her? Also, did you test the headset on other softwares to see if the microphone is working on them?

Here you can see some troubleshooting steps:
    https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/rainbow-six-...

But I think the most important is:
    - Check your Windows audio settings to make sure your microphone is not muted, and that the desired microphone is set as the Default recording device.
    - Right-click the speaker icon in the lower-right notification area
    - If you don't own the latest version of Windows 10, choose Recording devices
    - If you own the latest version of Windows 10, choose Sounds then select the Recording tab
    - Verify that the expected device is set as the Default Communication Device, and that the meter registers when you speak (the level should be around 60%)

See if the steps on the guide I sent you can solve your problem. If it doesn't help, just let me know and I'll do my best to help you.

Anyone have it where the mic connects but can’t talk out of it how do you fix that

    Probably that’s the reason
If the headset / microphone is not designed for Xbox, you’re going to experience issues

Bug: Microphone doesn't work after disconnecting Windows 10 streaming

Update: Regarding issue #2 (Headaet adapter issues while connecting Xbox One controller to Windows 10 PC for streaming)

    I discovered that:

    1) The headset adapter is just treated like an additional headphone and microphone under the Windows audio settings.

    2) To select which microphone to use (e.g. PC mic or microphone attached to Headset Adapter), set the desired microphone as your default device by right clicking volume/speaker icon at the bottom right of the taskbar and click "Recording devices."

    3) Odd behavior or malfunctions (e.g. headet microphone not working when streaming to Wkndows 10) may occur when there are too many USB plugged into the computer, causing insufficient USB controller resources.

When I plugged the Xbox One controller directly into my Surface Pro 2, the microphone automatically worked fine. When I docked my Surface Pro 2 into its docking station and plugged the Xbox One controller into the docking station's USB port, my headset adapter/Stereo
Headset's microphone was recognized, but the decibel meter would not detect any sound when spoken into. Occasionally, I would receive a "insufficient USB controller resources" error. This could also be an issue related to connecting the Xbox One controller
    to a USB hub.

Regarding issue #1 (headset adapter/stereo headset's microphone not working on Xbox One after disconnecting from streaming), I will see if I experience it again to isolate the issue.
