mico usb packed up controller

Well since it hasn't come out yet I doubt anyone really knows. A Mico-USB cables works just fine though and you aren't required to have Windows 10.

Hi AJStrucel! The Series 2 controller has a built-in battery pack and the charging port on the top of the controller is of the USB-C type. It also comes with a charging dock that plugs via the USB-C cable to your Xbox or PC on top of which you rest the controller.
The charging port on the dock lines up with holes on the back of the controller just below where the batteries of a normal controller are located.

You can remove the battery pack and play with the micro USB, it works perfectly well.

There's nothing "special" about the USB ports on the 360.

Never Charge your Standard NiMH Rechargeable 1.2V AA Batteries using the Play & Charge kit either..

That's not possible. The charging terminals for the Play & Charge battery pack are
on the center of the pack and the controller. The battery holder for the controller is a plastic carrier with no connection to those terminals.

Did you try to take out the battery pack and put it back in then connect the controller to the USB.
