Mic problem or controller problem?

I need help, I cannot hear anything from my xbox one headset. people can hear me but I cannot hear them, there was nothing on the troubleshooter that could help me. If you have the chat volume all the way up and you press the + button it will make a beep,
it does not do that anymore. I have dropped the controller a few times from like a foot off the ground or less. If you know if this is a headset issue or controller issue I would be happy if you could tell me.

controller will not turn on with mic connected

same problem. even tried re-calibrating the controller but i cant do it with mic plugged in because the controller wont turn on. not sure if its the controller or the mic but im super confused.

 

If you unplug the headset, can you hear the others through the TV?

Try doing the latest controller update (Settings>System>Update Controller) and see if that helps at all.

 

Yes, I can hear others through the TV. I cannot update my controller because I do not have a cable to do so.

 

When I move the cord connected to the part that plugs in controller, it will cut out. I still am not sure if it's the controller or the mic.
