Mic icon crossed out

The mic icon on my xbox one console is crossed out so I have no sound on my headphones. I've searched online, tried all suggestions and nothing has worked. I've done a hard reset, I've disconnected everything and reconnected, I've removed my account, my
headphones work on other devices, my controller is up to date and working, my account isn't banned. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear it. If you're using the 3.5 mm jack that may be the problem. Are you able to try the headset on a different controller?

I am not using a headset or microphone. The mic icon I mention is on the top right of the screen and meant to represent a speaker - mine is crossed out as I have no sound.

Well I plugged in my controller via usb cable and headset into the controller. The mic icon still doesn't light up in game when I speak and I must plug in the mic in game for the icon not to be crossed out, other than that the chat headset worked fine just
now. Hope it stays that way

The icon is a mic with a line through it, sound mute is a speaker with a line or cross through it. I should know the difference as I have been a tv engineer for over 40years! But thank you for the suggestion.

An additional that I do after reporting & avoiding the person, while I'm viewing their Profile, I also choose to "Mute" that player. This way, if that person randomly show up in a game lobby they are seen with their mic being crossed out as an icon next
to their gamertag. Once, I see that, we know we've reported that person before and leave the game lobby.
