Mic 3.5 mm works

It's a Marley Liberate XL BT with attachable 2.5 to 3.5mm cable. I attached a photo of both ends.



I could also just replace the cable with a compatible one?

I think you just solved the mystery. I see 3 rings on the one that doesn't work, and 4 on the one that does work.

Now if I buy an adapter that I can put the 3 rings in, which adapts it to a 4 ring, would that work?

I can understand your frustration with the mic issue as I'm sure everyone goes through something like that at some point. Have you tried to connect the mic to another controller to see if its a problem with the mic or mic cable or the 3.5 mm jack itself?

Yes, a mic can work on the 3.5mm jack port of the controller but you can only use it as a mic to speak, you would have to hear the sound coming from the TV or speaker.

What do you think to be my possibilities? I have read some stuff on the internet about the amount of rings etc. But it doesn't add up for me.

Just like in the picture, my 2.5 mm output only has 3 rings. So it's a TRS. In my understanding, TRS does not support audio and mic at the same time. The 3.5 output is a Trrs, so this one should allow it. But because of the 2.5 TRS output going into my headphone,
I reckon this to be the issue for not supporting the chat for through my Xbox One controller.

However, why does it work in my phone? It still a TRS 2.5mm output so it shouldn't support microphone, right? I have only tested the voice recorder on my phone, and not both listening and talking at the same time. Maybe that's why it worked on my phone?

Furthermore, is it possible to use an adapter for 2.5 mm TRS to 2.5 TRRS? Or would that not make any difference? Or will it work if I buy a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable with a mic, with both outputs being TRRS? Would that be compatible with the Xbox one controller?
Cause if that works, I wouldn't understand why it works on my phone and not on my controller?
