I can't give you the full story, but last year I squandered my only free gamertag change. I need this, so when I go to change it for ten bucks, it bombards me with errors. Change my online privacy settings, now they won't even save. Whoops. Contact support,
they tell me nothing and just ask me to get screencaps and other jackassery. Well, somehow I manage to get the settings saved, but I still can't buy the change. Whoops again. Support is once again useless and for some reason needs me to get an Xbox. No. Rinse
    and repeat that for months.

Well, anyways, I think the problem is that my account isn't linked to any others and I'm less than 18 years old, so my account locks me out of the privacy settings that let me buy stuff. Did I tell you that one of the first agents told me to make a dummy
adult account to unlock these? Well that seemed to work, but didn't really, and my account is stuck in this limbo of rejection and hatred, not that that support interaction changed anything. It just made everything less certain. Yes, my security standing is
    good.

Can someone from Microsoft just charge ten bucks and change my gamertag from "" to "gausscone" for me? Untangle the permissions for me too, lest I wait two more years to reach maturity, a shaky proposition in itself. Maybe this damn account is
dead forever thanks to Microsoft Family.

    :)

can't get the free gold trial

Sorry to hear you're having issues. If you are under 18 then the service considers you a minor and you will need permission from the parental account for your gamertag to do this. Changing the settings to adult on the console does not make it think the
gamertag is an adult account so permission is still required.

  3. Gamertag change denied?

I tried changing my Gamertag today, and it would have let me proceed to officially changing it, but I didn't have enough Microsoft points. I was about to add some, but I remembered that I needed to ask permission from the credit card owner first. I didn't
    finish the final step.

2 hours later, I return with permission to purchase. I'm about to put my new Gamertag as my motto because I was seeing how it would look to other people. When I enter it however, it tells me "Your motto contains a word or phrase that isn't allowed." I thought
this was odd, but I continued to go through to change my Gamertag again, and it tells me that this Gamertag is already in use. I try sending a message to the account, but it says it doesn't exist.

I think this is what happened:

    1) In the few hours I was gone, Xbox Live updated their word filter to not allow my Gamertag to be created, or displayed on a profile.

    And/Or

    2) When I originally tried changing my Gamertag, the process went so far that the system incorrectly noted that the Gamertag I was trying to change to was now taken.

Either way, I contacted Xbox Support, and the woman I talked to suggested to post on the forum, and also to wait 24 hours to see if anything had changed.

    My question is this:

Why was my Gamertag change rejected? Because of my theories above, or some other reason? The Gamertag in question is not inappropriate. Is this something along the lines of an incorrect word block, like how the word "fabulous" is not allowed in a profile?

    Much appreciated for a reply.

Trying to change gamertag but website and xbox pretty much told me "no"

Hi NickHignutt! My name is Ricardo an independent advisor ready to help you with this situation!

When you try to change your gamertag, the system checks it with a list of unauthorized Gamertags which may be disallowed for different reasons, there is no way to get to use a gamertag that it's on that list

    How bad Micro soft sucks

Microsoft doesn't change your gamertag. Ever. Even if it's offensive, and they want it changed, they issue a Forced Gamertag Change to let you make up your own. If it changed without your permission, it likely means someone got into your profile. Someone
figured out your email and password, it seems, and messed with your account. I hope that's the same conclusion Xbox Customer Support came to, and that they've opened up an unauthorized access investigation. Even if your gamertag was changed, they should
still be able to help you get ahold of your account, with all your stats, achievements, and digital content purchases. Shouldn't take too much to get it back into reasonable working order once that's done. Sorry you've had a rough time of it. As a long-time
gamer myself, I know the value your profile can represent to you. Time, money, and lots of effort poured into it. Don't give up hope, man.

    Microsoft Account Issue with Xbox

Following the directions from the page it took me to, my Gamertag was not in the Privacy settings in the account that added me.

Since I was removed and the family group deleted, should they add me back and change my permissions? Would this work?

my gamertag changed automatically, i don't know what to do

i understand where they coming from, but its messed up for people that want to make their own, isn't that part of a profile, our own xbox identity? like they just gave me a name like hitler gave the jews a number in those camps. like i didn't even want the
gamertag my friend set up, but i could never change it to something of my choice and more appropriate cause like i said i have diapers and bottles and formula for three kids. you'd think if it was such a problem for them then they would have it set up where
u can't make ur gamertag inappropriate at all. like it wouldn't let you use that gamertag unless it was appropriate. I'd put my new gamertag up on here to show them its not inappropriate but then someone else would steal it before i could change it. so i guess
im just stuck with this stupid gamertag for ever. might as well just switch over to sony
