Messages containing redeemable codes

I recently received a Xbox message containing a code for 5 months of game pass ultimate, with a description that said it must be redeemed by January 25th. That message has now disappeared through no action of my own, and I have found no means of retrieving it. Speaking with tech support, they said they have no means of retrieving it as well, and no mechanism to know that I was even sent the code:

"Since the promotion was provided the system to those accounts that have been with us for quite some time automatically, we dont have a track of the code or accounts selected" (Note: I have had an Xbox live account since day one)

The tech support person I chatted with essentially suggested that I should have taken a photo of the message. Is anyone in the habit of taking photos of messages they receive through a digital format?

Am I wrong in maintaining that Microsoft should not be using a messaging system that automatically removes messages when those messages contain content that have monetary value? Microsoft should either persist the message until the expiration time of the code, or use a messaging system that does persist - like the email account we have associated with our Xbox account.

And then to add insult to injury, I see I still have the tile on my home dash that says I have that code as a gift waiting for me in my messages.

on your xbox go to your messages. you should have a Message From Xbox that will contain the code for you to redeem in the xbox store

We'd be happy to help, but we'll need a few more details. What error message or error code are you seeing when you try to redeem the code? To clarify as well, these codes did expire if they weren't redeemed by the date provided in the message containing
the code. Do you still have the message with the code included?

I also received a redeem code for Limbo recently but unfortunately before I redeem it, I might deleted the mail which contained the code by a mistake and my messages only last 30 days.Can anyone help me and resend me the code. Thanks!

The best way to gift credit to other members is to just send them a redeem code via message across the service. I send codes to the kids at my place as part of pocket money sometimes.

If you send a message containing nothing but the code, there's a cool feature on 360 and X1 now that gives the recipient an option to redeem the code directly from that message. So they don't have to enter the 25 digits themselves.

If you add words to the message though, that feature doesn't seem to work. =|
