Messages App ALWAYS shows 1 message, but I don't have any?

I haf something like that happen. Showing new messages when I didn't have any. What seemed to work was either delete old conversations or check my messages through the app on my phone or computer. That always seemed to do the trick and removed the 1 new
message I didn't have.

I have no messages on Xbox.com and my Xbox app on my phone has always showed unread messages while my console would not show any messages. I have already tried removing my account and adding it back but this did not work either. I recently upgraded from
an Xbox One to an Xbox One X and it still displays that I have one new message.

I have the same issue. I assume you are on the Preview program. As far as I'm aware, it's a known issue and should be fixed before general release.

You are not alone. I've tried everything I can think of, but app still freezes with spinning circle icon when I try to access the messages tab. On iOS 10.2 iPhone 7.
