Message cursor freaking out

I don't send messages on my xbox one often, so I don't know when this started. When trying to send a message, as soon as I put a letter, the cursor went up to the suggest word line and to the right. trying to move it and it just jumps back there. click,
click, click. any attempt to move down to add more letters gets thwarted, sent to the suggested line and to the right so fast you can't even move around. like a button or toggle is stuck. but they are not stuck. it does not happen on any other menus. I've
restarted the console but it is still the same. doing a run-around with Cortana voice writing works, but I don't want to do this, and would rather my xbox work properly. any ideas what it might be?

Bingo! Unplugged for 10 seconds, and now it works. Hope this isn't something that has to be done often. Thanks Cowgirl and Leonzo.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. If the controller(s) work well on a different device, the issue may be software based. The first and best solution is to

power cycle the console by holding down the power button for ten seconds. Also, is your console enrolled in the

Xbox Insider program? Be sure to let us know the results!

Sorry to hear about your issue. You said you restarted your console, but have you done a complete power cycle. Press and hold the power button on the console for 8-10 seconds or until it shuts off. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console.
When doing this I will usually unplug my router to reset my network at the same time (optional). Plug everything back in and restart.

If this does not work, you may need to do a soft factory reset, keeping your games and apps. You will need your account/password information to sign back in once your Xbox resets. Below is a link with instructions on how to perform a soft factory reset.

Thanks for the reply. I actually figured out what was wrong on my own. I just deleted the controller connection the steam deck had saved then reconnected the controller, now it works fine.

Sorry to hear it. Please try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down. Then unplug it for 30 seconds. Then hold the Sync button (left side near the USB port on the original Xbox One and just below
the power button on the S and X consoles) and the Eject button for the console then press the power button and hold until you hear a second start up noise.

If you are using the Xbox One All Digital console then you only need to hold the Sync button and then press the power button to reset.

You should now see a new screen. Scroll over to Restart/Reset and reset the console to factory settings. There is an option to keep installed games and apps so you won't need to redownload them.
