Merging Xbox Gamertags

I am sure that this has come up many times in the past, but as the question was just raised again in a chat, I thought I would bring up the topic..

Does Microsoft now, or in the future, have any plans to allow users to merge multiple gamer tags that they may have into a single account?

Granted, I realise that there will be times where this won't be possible, due to accounts being suspended or banned, but for the majority I think this is something that would be welcomed..

How it would be managed I don't know, but that's not my field of experience.

If anyone from the Xbox team could comment, that would be great.. I am sure there are many out there who would like an answer to this question..

Transfering previous progress etc from an old xbox account on a console, to another on my laptop.

I would suggest using your old account and change the name. Merging separate accounts isn't possible.

Merging Gamertag

Go to the feedback forum. Because this is not a support question at all.

 

There has never been an option to merge gamertags. So far as I know they won't allow it either. All items purchased on one gamertag cannot be moved to another.

 

So in that case, would logging into xbox one with a 360 gamer tag allow a user to get all the backward compatible games, and then playing them with a xbox one gamer tag?

I have spoken with a few people in chat that are asking that question..

They had created a new gamer tag for xbox one, probably not realising that they could play both consoles with the same tag..

I know that Microsoft probably won't venture down the merge path, but it might be a nice option for some people..

 

So long as the gamertag that owns those games has the console set as their Home console others should be able to play them. Otherwise the gamertag that owns those games will need to be signed in.

However, just for future reference any preview issues should be limited to the preview forums.

Ya what onyx said fyi discussing beta issues outside the beta forums is an violation of the nda of the beta

It includes explusion and ban from further bêtas fyi

 

You should warn them against talking about the beta in chat

Only the beta forums is the only area where you can ask or have support for the beta unless you dont have access to the beta forums then the mods will take careof you

 

Fair point everyone.. Though I never considered it an issue regarding beta etc as specific titles were not mentioned, was just a question relating to multiple gamertags and the announced features..

Who can move this to the correct forum?
