Merging *or* Renaming Live accounts

It's not possible to merge accounts. In order to use the newer email on the old account, you would have to change the email on the new account to something different in order to free it up for use on the old account.

If you want to use the same email, we have two possible solutions:

1) go to http://account.live.com and sign into your existing LIVE account. Near the top it will say "Windows LIVE ID: *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. *** change".

If it is not a hotmail/live.com you can rename this account into another. After a few hours, the email will be available to use on your local/offline profile or reregister as a live id.

2) Download the extra gamertag to your console. Have another registered LIVE ID (dummy hotmail works). Go to Settings > Account > Your Information > Windows Live Id > Change. Put the current password, new id email and new id password.

This frees up a registered LIVE id, allowing you to attach it to your offline profile. IT MAY TAKE 30 DAYS FOR THE EMAIL TO BE USEABLE.

well you rename your old gamertag thereby freeing up the name

(it is unknown how long before the name is free)

then you cna change the name once its free

(whenever the server allows it)

but that is not merging accounts

No nothing can be transfered between accounts or merge you must keep your old account

I think I have the same "problem". I created a (free) account on my mothers Xbox a few years ago. Now I have my own Xbox with another account. I want to use the name I created on my mothers Xbox (which I have on a memory unit now) for my current account
on which I have purchased some stuff already.

Am I understanding correctly that renaming the old (free) account to something else will free the name to use on my new account? Even though I think it's kind of a rip-off considering the ridiculous amount of money it will take to change names twice, I would
like to do that. Just want to be absolutely sure that renaming an account will free up the old name for re-use. I don't want to flush money through the Micro$oft toilet just to find out I can't re-use previously used names, like with hotmail, where names are
always kept "reserved", even though it is an canceled account.

Pretty sure this would be a question for xbox support.

But if you wan't to merge the 2 accounts together that is not possible, I have asked that before and it just isn't something Microsoft's account systems can do

If it is just a case of renameing the account over on the xbox to a different gamertag, then on the companion console account change the gamertag so that it frees it up, then on the console rename yourself to the correct gamertag
