Here in UK we have remembrance Sunday, on the 11th hour the 11th day the 11th month ,that's when WW1 ended, I am ex army seen a lot of nasty things ,but at the somme nearly 20.000 dead in one day and that was just the British we will remember them.

 

I don't wanna sound like a but this will get deleted as it isnt to do with games or xbox one but that being said i am very into the armed forces my nan was a nurse in the war and my granddad was a spitfighter pilot he survived won lots of medals my other
halfs granddad was a sub captain and her great granddad was a admiral on a warship my cuz is also a royal marine

 

It won't get deleted - I also asked for people to share the games that they would play to honor their soldiers (it was #2 in the very 1st post). I can't help it if they would rather share with us the actual people they honor or the days they celebrate them
during the year. I'm actually learning something here. Before today I had never even heard of Victoria Day or Remembrance Day. I also wouldn't have known that mgzin and Louie are veterans and wouldn't be able to specifically honor them without this thread.

...but if you insist, the game I would play is Battlefield 4, as it is the most realistic option available on consoles. There, this thread is relevant (not that it wasn't before). If the mods remove this, I will give them a good fight, just like our servicemen
and women.

DJ, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, this is not about celebrating any 1 country; it's about celebrating the people who choose to serve in the armed forces for their respective countries.

 

I'm a vet too... Air Force. 4 years active, 4 years reserve. But I think Memorial Day is more for the fallen.

From the US Dept of Vet Affairs: Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds
sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans
for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

Yeah, I didn't. It was actually quite a surprise to me. Still, with so many people that visit the forums, a number of them were bound to be in the military.

So, now that Memorial Day is over, I'd like to know what you, your family, and/or your friends did to remember the fallen.

My family went to visit my grandparents graves at the state cemetery to pay our respects and had a classic American dinner with grilled BBQ ribs and french fries for dinner.

Because of this thread, I've learned about similar holidays in Canada and in the U.K., but I know there's more to learn. I know for a fact that some of you are from Australia and New Zealand. I'd like to know if you guys have a similar holiday, when it is,
and how you celebrate it.

 

I don't really have a lot to add but I want to say that I think its a great gesture and I have a lot of respect for any service men or woman that serve their countries. Top thread!
