Media streaming on Windows 7 works over wireless but not wired with TL-WR1043ND router

I have no issue discovering and streaming media from my laptop connected over wireless, but I have been unable to get my Xbox 360 to discover my PC which is connected via ethernet cable to my TL-WR1043ND router.

The Xbox 360 is wired as well and can connect to Xbox Live.

My laptop can see the Xbox 360 and my PC when looking at Network in Windows Explorer.

My PC can see my laptop when looking at Network, but cannot see the Xbox 360.

My router has UPnP on and I've tried restarting the UPnP and WMPNS services on my PC but it doesn't make a difference.

What else can I do to try to diagnose what's going on?

    :)

Windows PCs can't find Xbox One on the network

    Hi all-

I just got an Xbox One and it connects to the internet just fine. However, neither my Windows 8.1 laptop nor Windows 7 PC can find the Xbox One when I try to add the device from Devices and Printers. I want to add it as a device so I can play media to it
    using "Play to".

    • The laptop and desktop PCs have no trouble finding each other though.
    • I've verified that "Allow Play To streaming" is enabled on the Xbox One in Settings -> Preferences.
    • Both the Xbox One and Windows 7 PC are wired into the same router, and the laptop is connected via wireless N.
    • The laptop can find and control the Xbox One with the Smart Glass for Xbox One app, but I can't add the Xbox One from Devices and Printers.
Thanks for any and all help!

Media streaming on Windows 7 works over wireless but not wired with TL-WR1043ND router

G'day Thirsty! Let's take a look at the Windows Media Center setup on your PC and Xbox 360 console.

    First,
let's take a look at the steps here
. It sounds like you're already set up for Step 1, but Step 2 has you look into what connections your console already has. If your PC is already listed there, then it may help to delete the connection and start fresh.

If you're still unable to connect your PC after completing that,
let's next look at the connection between the two devices
    .

If you think it has something to do with being wired vs. wireless, here's one quick step to try that will verify: Connect your laptop to the router with an Ethernet cable, and see if you're still able to stream content from it to the console.

Please let us know how all this goes!

I am unable to get the laptop to show up once connected to the wired network.

The linked articles mention "McAfee Privacy Service" which I don't have or "This error might also be caused by a connection or firewall issue"

What can I do to diagnose why the PC and Xbox cannot discover each other on the wired network? I would wager there's a setting in the router (because the only thing I've changed has been the router when it stopped working), but I don't know what to look
    for.

The Xbox does not look to respond to pings, so is there any other way I can detect that the two can see each other?

Thanks for sharing your findings, Thirsty. It definitely sounds like your router is causing some communication problems among wired devices. We have some info about that router in our
Networking Hardware forums. Let's make sure that the router's firmware is updated, and then try port forwarding and check for a firewall.

The firmware is 130925 which looks to be the latest.

I tried disabling SPI firewall, but that doesn't have an affect from what I can see. Also the firewall impacts connections to the internet, not the LAN.

Port forwarding doesn't seem to have an affect (again I think this would only affect connections across the internet and the Xbox has no problems connection to Xbox Live).

Is there any diagnostics I can run to see if the Xbox and PC can see each other at all (since the Xbox doesn't respond to ping I'm not sure how to do this)

Media streaming on Windows 7 works over wireless but not wired with TL-WR1043ND router

I'm afraid we don't have any diagnostic tools like that to offer here. It seems like the communication misstep is happening at the router though, based on what happened with the laptop on a wired connection.

I know this seems like a silly step, but when was the last time you power cycled your router? Unplug it from the outlet and let it sit for a solid 2 minutes, then plug it back in. It may help to restart your PC and console, too.

If you have a spare router, or if you're able to use your modem as a wired Gateway, try those options too.

The old router I had ( a DIR-655) had no issue here, I've tried power cycling the TP Link router but I get the same result.

Is there a next step or another support channel I can try?
