    media sharing with mindlna server

Trying to connect xbox 360 to ubuntu running minidlna server, when trying to connect xbox, says PC Blocked in the Network Test -> PC Connection...

I have read that minidlna works with xbox 360, but cant seem to get it to work.

minidlna works with other clients, such as kodi, and vlc, so I know it works...

my setup - wired network, no firewall on the Ubuntu PC, router configured for UPnP

PC - Ubuntu 14.04, static IP, running minidlna v 1.1.5

xbox 360 - DHCP, connects to xbox live, latest dashboard update, can see kodi as UPnP, but not minidlna

    any thoughts??

    :)

Browing to XBox One via Network

The Xbox One isn't designed to serve as a media/file server and so, no, you're unable to browse files on the Xbox from your PC. The Xbox is capable of browsing media your PC is sharing, however, so you're able to enjoy movies/music stored on your computer
    from your console.

    DLNA Sharing

I know they work with servers like PS3 Media Server, but I was hoping to just use the default share and not need a server running. There's no Windows Media Connect yet.

I would check your router to make sure it's forwarding ports correctly, as well as any firewalls you may have installed on Ubuntu.

How to stream video from PC to XBox One X ?

Xbox does not support reading network shares, which is kinda odd considering it runs Windows and it should be able to join Homegroups created by Windows when you think about it.

    So your options are

    1) Get VLC from Xbox app store, it can read SMB network shared folder under "browse" category.

    2) Install a DLNA media server on your PC like Serviio or Mezzmo and use that to stream to Xbox stock media player which supports DLNA.

    3) Install a media server like Plex or Emby and use there clients available in the Xbox app store, to play the media that way, Plex/Emby do also double as DLNA servers too but their app clients are a better way to access the media.

    Stuck at "Contacting Media Server"`

Had That Problem Now Fixed It Doing This

For those that Play To is not available or it sits at Connecting to Media Server and doesn’t change: search for “services” in the windows search. I think it’s services.svc or something but mine just populates at the top of the list. Then right click on “Windows
media player network sharing service” select Stop. Right click on “UPnP Device Host” and select Stop. Right click the UPnP again and start it.

Start the Windows media player network sharing service again.

You should get past the “connecting to server” thing now.

    worked for me
