    Media Remote

I finally got a chance to use my remote last night when my wife and I get one of those rare opportunities to watch a whole movie. I was very disappointed to say the least.

If you want to turn on subtitles through your Xbox One controller, you can push down on the stick and it'll bring up the play options. You can't do this on the remote. Insane.

I pause the movie, which brings up the menu and can then scroll through the options until I get to CC. I push the button to see my options, which shows a list of languages under the menu. I'm not sure if it was a Blu-Ray menu built into the disc or from
the One, but I was not able to select a language. Fortunately pressing the center button would toggle subtitles on and off with English. Still, getting it working was absurd.

Later, I wanted to adjust the volume of my TV when watching a YouTube video, but nothing happened. I wanted to navigate through YouTube with my remote, but nothing happened. Apparently the remote sends a different command to the One than a controller. What's
up, down, left, right on a controller is apparently a different set of up, down, left, right commands from a remote control. This is ludicrous.

Distance isn't the problem. I was at the furthest point in my living room and able to pause/play the movie without issue, and yet, eight times out of ten, the volume will not adjust when pushing the buttons and am several feet closer. Unreal.

Little nuances that keep piling up are making my One experience regrettable, to say the least. No polish, lack of thought in real use case scenarios. I'm tired of having buyer's remorse, and this unhelpful remote only perpetuates further.

I was hoping that the update would help this but it seems that it did NOT help. So I to have the volume problem with the remote. also I would like to know if we could set it control other devices like ad WD live box or other boxes?

Thanks for reading. hope we have an answer soon.

  3. I hope there's a new update for the media remote for better functionality of the bluray player, menu buttons work perfectly if using the xbox controller, but using the remote hitting play/pause twice just to bring up the menu and selecting scene or main
menu., plus no quick way to get rid of the menu feedback unless using a controller. While movie is playing. Disappointed so far in M$

    Media Remote

If the support team are reading this. It would be great to be able to use one of the buttons on the remote as a dedicated DVD/ Blu-ray menu button. Pretty essential for me.

  5. I've contacted Xbox Support through that little online text chat session. We went through several different troubleshooting ideas-disconnecting my TV and reconnecting it through the console, restarting my xbox, changing batteries in the remote, I even went
through settings>network>advanced settings>alternate mac address>clear>restart, whatever that's supposed to do. None of it worked. My media remote still does not control volume and my xbox still will with voice commands. The end solution was:

"Hi Rhys, I have spoke with my superior about this concern

you can contact our tech support for this. You can call them

    at "1-800-642-7676 (1-800-MICROSOFT)"

I'll try that and post on here what happens, whether their solutions work or not..

  7. Hey everyone,

For those having trouble controlling volume with the IR remote while it works fine via voice: this is an issue with IR interference as the IR from the remote and the Kinect are interfering and keeping the appropriate IR signals from reaching your TV.

The best workaround is to angle the remote in a way that it points more toward the Xbox than the TV. For instance, my Xbox is 2-3 lower than my TV at home, so I angle the remote downward when I send volume.

Other options include using IR extension cables instead of the Kinect or to re-arrange the devices.

I understand the frustration here, and I'm sorry that you're experiencing it.

Having trouble getting the new Xbox 360 Media Remote to work with my Xbox 360 console.

    Update to my last post:

If you have the current version of the Xbox 360 Dashboard, follow this command path -- System Settings > Console Settings > Remote Control

You will see 2 options listed: "Both Remotes" (allows you to use either the Xbox 360 Media Remote or a Windows Media Center Remote) and "Xbox 360 Media Remote" (sets the system to accept input from only an Official Xbox 360 Media Remote, or an Officially Licensed
3rd party equivalent.) Make sure your system is set to "Xbox 360 Media Remote" then exit out of the System Settings menus and try the remote again.

    I hope that helps. :)

Program the media remote for your TV

Before your media remote can work with your television set, you need to program it for use with your particular brand of TV. There are two ways to program your media remote: manually entering your TV code or scanning to find your TV code.

Note After 30 seconds of inactivity, the media remote will exit the TV programming mode. Pressing any button besides Select, 0–9, or Channel Up/Down returns the media remote to its original mode and ends programming mode. Now, take the batteries out of the
remote for about 3 - 5 minutes to allow it to reset. From there replace the batteries in the remote and try the instruction that came with the remote (PDF). If that doesn't work then try to program the remote to a different tv to make sure the remote works
properly. Please just remember to program the remote within 9 seconds to prevent the

remote from resetting again in the middle of programming it.

Watch the following video to see how to program the media remote for your TV.
