    Having trouble getting the new Xbox 360 Media Remote to work with my Xbox 360 console.

    Update to my last post:

    If you have the current version of the Xbox 360 Dashboard, follow this command path -- System Settings > Console Settings > Remote Control

    You will see 2 options listed: "Both Remotes" (allows you to use either the Xbox 360 Media Remote or a Windows Media Center Remote) and "Xbox 360 Media Remote" (sets the system to accept input from only an Official Xbox 360 Media Remote, or an Officially Licensed
    3rd party equivalent.) Make sure your system is set to "Xbox 360 Media Remote" then exit out of the System Settings menus and try the remote again.

    I was going to until I saw it was just an IR remote and doesn't connect like a controller. Who needs a cheap IR remote with just a few buttons when you can get the full blown Harmony remote to control everything? What I want is a full blown universal
    RF remote that works through the Kinect as an IR blaster. I need to be able to control all the features of my receiver and FIOS DVR.

    24 bucks is alot cheaper then the harmony remote, I wont care as much if my 4 year old wrecks a 20 buck one -- but a 200 buck one... ouch.

    Yes I will probably be picking one up, I use my xbox a lot for Netflix so would be nice to not use the controller, I could never get used to controlling TV with a gaming controller...just seems wrong Media remote :)

    Probably going to pick this up at some point Media remote :) I'm UK though so I bet the price is higher lol

    The best Harmony is the 650 which usually goes for between $60-$70.

    Help! I got the Xbone Media Remote today and am having problems.

    The Xbox base unit can receive IR but is hidden away in cabinet and no line of sight.

    Surely Kinect should be able to receive the IR from the remote, and then communicate to base unit (as well as blasting IR out)?

    At this rate, I should have the Kinect in the cabinet, and the base unit out on display which is ridiculous!

    Please someone tell me I'm doing something wrong!

    I don't believe the Kinect can receive IR signals. You need to have line of site to the Xbox console. That's a reason I'm wanting a full RF universal remote.

    Program the media remote for your TV

    Before your media remote can work with your television set, you need to program it for use with your particular brand of TV. There are two ways to program your media remote: manually entering your TV code or scanning to find your TV code.

    Note After 30 seconds of inactivity, the media remote will exit the TV programming mode. Pressing any button besides Select, 0–9, or Channel Up/Down returns the media remote to its original mode and ends programming mode. Now, take the batteries out of the
    remote for about 3 - 5 minutes to allow it to reset. From there replace the batteries in the remote and try the instruction that came with the remote (PDF). If that doesn't work then try to program the remote to a different tv to make sure the remote works
    properly. Please just remember to program the remote within 9 seconds to prevent the

    remote from resetting again in the middle of programming it.
