media remote volume failure and xbox power off yes promp not working with voice

I got the new media remote and it works fine but the volume refuses to work unless its a feet or less in front of the console just wondering if i got a faulty controller and also when i say xbox turn off and it promps in green to say yes or no it wont accept

Xbox one media remote won't control TV

Well, no matter what I try, the official Microsoft Media Remote just won't control my TV's volume. I thought maybe it was my off-brand Sanyo TV but tried it on my other LG TV and it behaved the same. The Kinect can control the TV's volume with voice commands,
but not the media remote.

Returning this and I will try a third party remote and hope for better functionality.

No, it's not a universal remote: (www.xbox.com/.../media-remote)

The remote controls TV/receiver power and volume through Kinect, or an IR extender cable (cable not included).

You need Kinect or IR Extenders.

I have the same problem with my media remote, tv control only works from 2-3 feet, other functions work fine from across the room

Ditto! everything else works with navigating but to raise the volume I have to be like inches from the xbox. You think it's the Xbox or a software thing? MICROSOFT HELP!?

Removed my AVR and I can control my TV's volume with voice commands.

None of the remote codes worked to power off or on.

I think I have the same or similar issue. What's weird is that my Philips HTL2160 soundbar works great using the Kinect voice volume commands but not with the Media Remote. If I use the volume button on the remote my soundbar blinks like something is happening,
but the volume never changes. Yet, the mute button on the remote works fine. Again, the voice commands work fine for volume. Weird. Anyone find a solution?
