  1. Media Remote: Volume buttons do nothing unless pointed directly at the floor

I got the Xbox One media remote today and everything works great apart from the volume buttons. They only work if I point the remote directly at the floor, away from the Xbox...

After googling, it's clear a lot of people have this very same issue. What on earth could be causing it?

    :)

  2. XBox One Media Remote and IR Extender Cable

I have an Xbox One media remote and the IR extender cable. My xbox is not connected to my cable. I have not been able to get the IR extender cable to respond when using the remote (pointed directly at it). Most of the buttons on the remote work except for
volume, mute and channel (which i wouldn't need). I have tried to sync the device to my TV (Samsung) but it has not worked. I have entered codes manually and automatically. Does anyone else have this issue or a solution?

  7. Me again, this time with video evidence of what happens! Pointing directly at the Xbox, mere inches away, nothing happens. Turn the remote around however and it immediately starts working.

Again, this only happens with volume controls - all other controls work fine.

  8. Media Remote: Volume buttons do nothing unless pointed directly at the floor

    Hey there Mr XBob!

Sorry for the delay! If the Media Remote will only work properly if it is pointed away from the Xbox One console, then IR interference can be the cause for the unresponsiveness while pointing the remote directly at the console. I recommend changing your
setup to see if you notice any changes with the remote functions. Objects such as cordless phones, wireless routers, metal dividers and shelving units can be cause for the interference. Thanks!

  9. Thanks Quimby, though it's not the setup that's the issue. It's the remote itself.

Everyone I talk to has the same problem, no matter their setup. If it were IR interference it would be affecting all buttons, not just the volume controls.
