  1. Media Player - would like to browse during playback

    The media player on Xbox1 seems to be a step back from what the 360 could do. I have a 128gb USB drive connected to a rear port. I transferred the vast majority or my PC's music collection to it so I can easily listen to music via the Xbox1 (and by extension,
    my home theater). The layout of files in the media player window leaves a lot to be desired, but I can live with it. My main complaint is that when you are playing a song through the media player, you are unable to browse the rest of songs on the source you
    are using (USB or otherwise) without stopping the song that's playing. Unless you want to queue up an entire album, or let it shuffle a folder, there is no way to just "DJ" your music. It's pretty simple: as a song is playing, I'd like to just be able to hit
    the back button (or whatever button they want to assign it) and browse files for the next song, without having to wait until the end of a song and then have everyone else in the room sit there in silence while you choose the next track. The 360 was capable
    of minimizing the music player when you hit the back button to browse for the next song. You would just hit "Y" to bring the music player back to the foreground. This seems like a simple fix, and doesn't make much sense as to why it wasn't included as a function
    from the beginning. I've tried to snap the media player and then go into a second media player to browse files, but that still stops what's playing. Anyone have insight into if a future update will add this basic and simple functionality?

    :)

  2. Xbox One - My Home Theater Device: Perks and Consequences

    Windows Media Player already installed in Windows 7 (or a free download if you have the N version). Xbox One Media Player to play that content. You can control all playback functions with Kinect.

    Alternatively purchase NAS with built in media server. Use Xbox One's Media Player to playback content. Use Kinect to control playback.

    Buy a media remote if you don't have Kinect.

    You seem to be adding needlessly complex steps to your media playback.

    Windows Media Center sees files but can't play

    I can expand on 4GEE's problem because it is happening to me as well. The issue is that the Xbox Music subscription files (wma) are not playable with any the following media playback applications:

    * Windows Media Center on Windows 8

    * Windows Media Center on Xbox 360

    * Windows Media Player on Windows 8

    * System Music Player on Xbox 360

    Go ahead, try it for yourself. Interestingly, any subscription music downloaded through the legacy Zune software (also wma) is still compatible with all of the above playback applications. I confirmed the above findings just earlier today with my Windows
    8 computer and Xbox 360 S. The limitations of Xbox Music files has interrupted my ability to play a custom soundtrack during Xbox 360 gameplay as well as play background music during a Media Center slideshow. Downloading the Optional Media Update for Xbox
    360 does not solve this issue. Please help!

    Examples:

    * Nirvana: Nevermind

    * No Doubt: Tragic Kingdom

    * Infected Mushroom: Vicious Delicious

    (all downloaded via Xbox Music on Windows 8)

    Media player freezing after 30 mins on Xbox one x

    Having the same problem with media player on my Xbox One S playing .mp4 files off of a 2TB drive, exactly as described by "NeutronOverload".

    I switched over to ACG player for now which is only ok-ish. The ads are slightly annoying, popping up only once during binge play, but playback is better than VLC, (the contrast issue)

    I hope an update fixes this issue with media player soon.

    Media Player App Issues

    I experience the same issues.

    128 gb USB drive with about 75 gb of music files on it. Have plugged it into all the USB ports.

    Playing a single music folder (typically a single album) is not a problem. If I try to shuffle the entire USB drive, however, it stops during song 2 or 3 and kicks back out to the dashboard.

    As for the general playback, it's super frustrating that when you hit the back button, the media player stops playing the current track. You should be able to browse other files / folders within the USB drive without stopping your current track. This was
    available on 360, no reason it shouldn't be included on the One's media player.

    Media Remote Menu Button During DVD/Blue-Ray Playback

    According tho Xbox Support on twitter there is no way to open a DVD/Blu Ray menu during playback using the Media Remote, suggestion was to use the XB1 controller for this functionality. Which, funny enough, is exactly why I bought the media remote so that
    I don't have to use the XB1 controller for controlling my media.

    Sounds like they are working on a solution.
