Lol, yeah it is pretty lame and bizarre. Obviously they have no problem having this functionality on the Xbox 360, so we know they can make it work. And, like you said, the file IS PLAYING DIRECTLY BEHIND THE GREY ERROR MESSAGE just fine!!! Why would
I need to go to a different folder and close the video?

 

I'm getting this error on most every folder I try. Not sure who reset the counts but it worked fine before the most recent update and died immediately after. So... please FIX IT. FIX IT. FIX IT NOW.

 

I'm having the same problem too.. You know, what would help the situation if this app did not try to put everything in this folder into a playlist and just play the individual file selected....I guess all we can do is wait.

 

I have it too, just bought one. Its worse at streaming from my Win8 box than my PS3, fantastic.

That the movie is playing perfectly well in the background of their huge grey banner error is a big frak you. The arbitrary limits on the Xbox music/video app only compounds the problem.

 

The recent update fixed the folders structure not appearing and some file types which didn't play now work correctly, but the "Try a different folder message" is still there.

Microsoft :- How do I vote for this to be corrected?

 

Possible workaround that worked for me - Use the sorting system to view movies in smaller folders (by first letter, etc..)

 

A fix I found for this was to go to play a movie and then when the error pops up back out and go to recently viewed and play the movie from there, no problems so far.

 

I am having the same issue as well. I have my Xbox pointed to my video library to stream videos. It can definitely play the movies, however the error message pops up and my movie continues to play in the background.

 

Please fix this! It's very annoying.

 

Stupid error is making me for back to 360 to watch movies. Thanks Microsoft for allowing me to not use my new Xbox One.

 

I found on my XBOX if the folder has less than 37 items everything plays fine. If you have more than 36 the first 36 play fine anything over that generates the error. Looks like someone set a variable very wrong...

same Problem. Qnap NAS with Plex Media Server.

First i changed to TWONKY Media Server - then my Xbox was unable to play my Movies at all!

So i setup Plex again, changed to wired Network - same problem.

The only workaround is to sort by year (or whatever) so that only a few movies were displayed, then playing works fine.
