Whenever I try to play a video file through the Xbox One Media Player, about 10 seconds into playing the file I get a gray colored box popup that has the error message:

    Try a different folder

It took a long time to gather all your media for playback. Please try a different folder.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't have any problems streaming these video files to the Xbox 360. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    :)

I have just started to get this error message. Annoying thing though, is the video is playing in the background.... and when I close the error message, it closes the video.

  5. Yep, the video plays in the background for me as well. I tried to correct the problem by making additional sub folders so there would be less files to go through but that didn't work either.

This is happening to me too, using Plex (Version 0.9.9.14, headless from a Synology Diskstation).

It seems to happen when there's a structure that contains a large number of files, such as a folder containing movies. A structure containing a show/season type structure doesn't have this issue, nor does a movie type structure with fewer files.

  7. Hi AqvaRegiA,

Thanks for the response. I assumed that was the case. It's just disappointing that the Xbox 360 has no problem dealing with a large number of files but we are seeing this issue on the One. I guess I can try and organize my movies into a different structure
but it's going to be a big PITA. It'd be nice to see a fix in the next update for this problem.

  8. Media Player problem (Xbox One) - Error "Try a different folder"..."It took a ...

I had no issues until yesterday. Everything was playing correctly with no problem. Nothing has been added or removed. Regarding file structures, the xbox one doesn't recognise what I do have, I have to select the all video option, to see anything on my NAS.

I had zero issues with my 360...*** xbox one...

Same. Figures there would be errors right outta the gate. Guess we will be waiting some more to stream music or set pictures of our own as our background. Derp it up Microsoft

  10. Same problem for me just viewing photos on a DLNA server. The picture shows behind the message telling me it can't load the picture.

  11. Having the same issue. It just started happening. Was playing everything fine until this last video and now I'm getting this error. Very upsetting. Guess I can always do "PlayTo" with Xbox Video for now... even though that's more of a PITA.

I'm using Serviio as my DLNA server since I guess you can't just share files anymore and play them.

I've been having the same problem, using Plex as my media server. I only have about 200 movies in my main 'Movies' folder. Nothing will play when selecting a movie from the full list. However, if I select a movie by decade, it will start playing and I will
not get an error message. It's a mildly annoying workaround, but so far it's consistently working for me.

Getting this error since the newest "update".

    Had no problems whatsoever before.

Fix this...please. Updates aren't meant to break things.

Who employs these idiots at Microsoft? What a ridiculous error handling routine... Oh, the system is taking too long to load the files. I know, I'll fix it by coding a huge banner to fill the screen informing the viewer that I couldn't be bothered to look
into why this was happening. I'll just tell them to "try a different folder". No, I don't care that the video is playing fine in the background. I'll just insist that they terminate playback to get rid of the message. Voila. Sorted. Job done. I'm off to the
    pub. [Mod Removed]wits.
