Media Player on Xbox playback is stuttering/jerky

    Hi

I use Media Player on my Xbox Series X console (with Insider alpha build), to watch content I have on my NAS (like converted DVDs to digital), using DLNA and I hadn't had an issue until several weeks ago when the playback decided to start playing, the only way I can describe it, as jerky or stuttering (for instance instead of the Enterprise flying across the screen smoothly it's a jerky stop start every half second. And it continues to get worse.

I've tried to hard reset the console delete the app and reinstalling it after a restart, and ensured there is enough free space on my internal drive. If I use another app such as the inferior VLC UWP app connecting via upnp the motion is smooth but the app itself is extremely basic.

If I use the Films and TV app that also plays smoothly but there seems to be a severe limitation in directory nesting depth and I can't navigate to the files I would like to play. So these two latter apps playback correctly but are lacking and yet the Media Player that I've used for years plays horribly jaggy.

Is there any solutions to resolve this or is there the ability to fix the directory depth to the Films and TV app so I can navigate to the correct files on my NAS? I haven't found any other apps that can be used on Xbox Series X.

Suggestions? Can Media Player be fixed somehow?

    :)

Hello, first it's a pleasure to be able to help you today.

My name is welcome to the community.

Hello Troysch, Insider systems are known for their instabilities and bugs, and by their description I don't think there's anything wrong with their NAS.

I don't know what brand you use, but they can usually need firmware updates.

As for your own Xbox because you're from Insider Alpha Build, try checking the Insider community for similar issues.

Windows Media Player already installed in Windows 7 (or a free download if you have the N version). Xbox One Media Player to play that content. You can control all playback functions with Kinect.

Alternatively purchase NAS with built in media server. Use Xbox One's Media Player to playback content. Use Kinect to control playback.

Buy a media remote if you don't have Kinect.

You seem to be adding needlessly complex steps to your media playback.

    October update

Anyone tried streaming a movie over DLNA since the latest update? I have a GB wired connection to my media server but movie playback seems to have a slight stutter/delay between picture and audio. Just enough jitter to be really annoying. Music playback
is working great, so glad to have this added! Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with movie/video playback?

    Media Player Stutter/Lag

I'm having the same exact problems. What's more is that with animated kids movies, after the stutter, the voices no longer sync up with the video. I'm sure the solution is "wait for the update." I just hope if enough people report the same problem, Microsoft
will get on it. Thanks for raising the issue.
