GOT MINES WORKING... but had to get a new drive :|

as i stated earlier i was using a 2tb WD external. Xbox hasn't been able to read it in months. my drive actually started to go out so i had to hurry and get a new one (none of my data was backed up) . so i bought another WD (4tb this time) transferred all
my stuff and it been working ever since. The new driver is formatted in NTFS, my old drive was in the Fat32 . So if you read my previous post with the email from xbox.. the answer MAY be in reformatting your drive

which i dont blame none of you if you dont do it. I know i wouldnt have. just so happens my old drive was dying on me.

Hey, all! This should be resolved now with the newest update. To give it a shot, please attempt the following steps if you are still running into this:

    - Unplug the hard drive from the console

    - Make sure you have the update (Settings > All settings > System > Console info & updates)

    - After the update, power cycle the console even if it reset (hold the power button for 8 seconds)

    - When the console comes back on, plug in the hard drive

Let us know your results after you try that out! Thanks again to everyone for your patience while we dug into this. Media Player not recognising External HDD :)

I was messaged personally by Misses Quinzel with a link to this post. The steps that she posted, did nothing for my fiance's external HDD and now we have given up. Nothing is being taken seriously, no one is responding to us on twitter and Xbox chat support
just told me to buy a new console and external HDD. The console we have is a Day One edition that cost us 450 GBP (British pound) and a external HDD that cost 100 GBP and that total is $682.87 converted to the dollar. That is a lot of money just to be told
to buy a new console and external HDD. I want answers from a proper developer. I have spent way too much time trying to get someone from twitter or reddit who works for this company to listen, but they don't care. We just passed the 15 year anniversary with
Xbox being a console but this third generation seems to be more about being flashy than actually caring about the product. The 360 worked fine so why can't the Xbox One do what the developers promise? Is fixing a external HDD that hard?

  7. Hey, guys! Thanks so much for trying that out for me. I reached out to everyone I could that was still having this issue (based on their post in here) to have all users attempt the steps again, and I am saddened to see that you two are still having issues.

Lymiss, I understand that you and your fiance are frustrated, however if you decide you want to try out the steps below, that can help us narrow down further issues.

Please note that all of these steps need to be followed before I can send up your information to the teams again. All of this is so that they have fresh data to work with, in addition to ensuring we have attempted everything we can before sending
them up. This saves a ton of time for us and the teams working on this because there will be no back and forth between us, and we don't have to continue asking you guys to do other things. We appreciate you taking the time to help us help you. Media Player not recognising External HDD :)

    - Please follow all the steps in our Troubleshoot External Storage Issues support article. There is a lot you have
likely already tried in there, but please attempt it again.

    - If you can, try the hard drive on another console. Trying on a PC is good, but it won't give us a good idea of if it's the drive or something in the OS on the console. That is what we are trying to narrow down here.

    - Reformat the external hard drive on a PC. You will want to try NTFS first, however if you are on a Mac PC you will need to format it to exFAT. (If NTFS doesn't work for you, please try FAT32 on a Windows PC. Alternatively, if exFAT doesn't work from a
Mac, please attempt the reformatting on a Windows PC if you can.)

If all of the above does not work for you, please provide me with the following information:

    - Your console's OS (this can be found by going to Settings > All settings > System > Console info & updates, OS is the third one down). Please post back with the 10.[insert numbers here]
AND (rs1_xbox_rel_1610 [insert build number here]). This will give us the most recent information on your console's OS.

    - What device did you format your external hard drive on, and to which format?

    - Hard drive manufacturer and model number.

Once I have that information, it will be passed on to the teams again, and we will continue from there. Again, thanks to everyone for your patience, and we're hoping we can nail this one down with your assistance. Media Player not recognising External HDD :)

Media Player not recognising External HDD

Just to let anyone who might be looking for answers about this problem, there is no solution except buy a new hard drive and Xbox One. Been seeking help since August about this and it is now December 6. Nothing is being done. The devs are overworked and
have moved on to other projects for the MS. The messaging system is currently broken for preview programmers and they are top billing so there isn't anything being done for us. It sucks but you either just have to deal with this, spent hundreds of dollars
to replace what the dev team broke (which is what MS wants you do to) or move to another gaming console. Sorry for anyone looking for answers.

January 6 2017 and still no fix. All communication from support has ended. I suppose that the devs have given up since Scorpio is coming this year and just want us to buy a new one so they can screw us again.

  10. After seeing this post and trying help others with their external USB drive problems, I just had to add my observations. Given the number of post here and in other forum categories. it's clear that there might be something going on with the Xbox One USB
3.0 interfaces. And, in fear of opening this "Pandora's Box" even further I have to bring up another issue. I have been using the new Western Digital 1TB drives (WDBYNN0010B). I have formatted and reformatted these drives back and forth between my Xbox One,
Xbox One S and Windows 10 PCs multiple times. And I have had no problems with reading, writing and playing games off them. However, the read/write performance to and from the Xbox is very poor. At best I'm only seeing a transfer rate of no better than 40MB/s.
On average it was more like 30MB/s, or less. From a practical stand point that meant moving 42GB of my Battle 1 took approximately 35 plus minutes. I repeated these tests multiple time with multiple games and files, and came up with the same numbers for the
Xbox every time. But, the transfer rate with the very same WD drives to and form my Windows 10 PCs, regardless of file type or size was consistently between 80 and 100MB/s. This was a major discrepancy with the performance of the USB 3.X ports on the Xbox
Ones. At first I thought this was a compatibility issue with the drives. So, I followed up with one of my technical experts who also happens to be one of the fine employees at my local Microsoft Store. And, he confirmed what I was seeing. With multiple drives,
at best he was seeing no more the 60MB/s transfer rate to and from his Xbox One. And, still far below the 80 and 100MB/s he was getting on his Windows 10 PCs. He reassure me that the USB ports on the Xbox One and Xbox One S are in did USB 3.X. And, I and we
have no reason to think other wise (despite the lack of the defecto blue color connectors). But, with external USB 3.0 drives not being recognize by the Xbox, with drives that just simply stop working with the Xbox, and performance issues, clearly something
is going on here. If it's not a hardware problem then most like it has to be a pending driver issue of some kind.

Thanks for that SoAnnoying. There is a reddit post on the Xbox One page from a dev asking about external hard drives and stuff. I wrote a wall of text and tagged him in it in hopes that maybe he can do something or pass the info along to someone who can.
This past two months have been hard though, we've had to limit are spending because we don't have the hard drive space to download any new games. I don't see why this isn't a issue for xbox, even if it is a small group (which it doesn't seem to be anymore),
they just want to ignore us.

Just another small update for anyone who may be searching for a solution. It's now March 2 and there still hasn't been any update or help from the Xbox devs. They have completely given up on us and have moved on to making another home screen that will probably
lead to more issues. No hard drives are able to be read on the console despite the hard drives working on other consoles and computers. Any answers we get from support are "get a new console", "send it in for repairs and pay us for it" and "Just give up and
buy a Scorpio" . We have been xbox owners for more than 8 years now and this is the worse I have every seen their customer service. We were promised that things would be looked into and we did all the damn trouble shooting steps just to be ignored. So if your
a new person looking for a answer as into why your external hard drive is not being read by your xbox, well there is no answer, Just a buy a new one and pray that it works.

    Hi guys,

Hopefully this will help you as it seems to have fixed my issue for me. Simply do a hard reset of your Xbox One. Also, ensure that the drive is formatted in either NTFS, exFAT, or FAT32. Otherwise it won't work.

    Good luck!
