  1. Media Player MKV - No Fast Forward

    Hey everyone.

I got MKV to work after I installed all the codecs necessary on my DLNA server. (My laptop)

However, with MKV support being added, how come you can't fast forward/rewind? And how come the video is 0 seconds long even though it's not? It shows up as 2:00:01 on VLC, Winamp, and Media Player Classic, but on the Xbox One it's always 0 seconds with
the inability to pause, fast forward, or rewind.

Anyone have any insight as to why this is? This is the most bizarre thing ever, especially when you're watching something with family and a network error occurs. We'd rather not watch the whole thing from the beginning. I've also tried Serviio and no luck
with that either. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

    :)

Play you mkv files on your xbox video player, it works!

So I figured out a way to play mkv files from the video player. You will need to install the following apps on your PC

    Required software:

    the Haali Media Splitter
    http://haali.su/mkv/MatroskaSplitter.exe
    website
    http://haali.su/mkv/

Window Media Center - I am using windows 8 Retail with WMC add-on.

Yes, you need windows media center in order for the xbox to play MKV files no way around this.

    Installation:

    1.Install windows Media Center

2.Install Haali Media Splitter - Accept defaults

3.Connect xbox to WMC as an Extender

4.Play a movie in WMC that is MKV via XBOX

    5.Exit out of WMC

6.Go To video player on xbox

7.look for same file and play it! You will see the haali media splitter icon next to movie

8.That is it, you don't have to open WMC on your PC or xbox anymore.

I tried this on two Xboxes and it works. I am abke to play 720P MKV files from the video player, it plays the movies smooth and fast on a wired connection.

Good luck and let me know if this works for you.

  3. Media Player Not showing MKV files.

There are no warnings or error messages.

When I select all video's in the Media Player App, it shows all my videos on my media server apart from the mkv videos.

I know there are mkv videos on the media server, but the Xbox Media Player App doesn't show them.

EDIT- I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Media Player App. That didn't solve the problem.

Media Player MKV - No Fast Forward

Probably a content issue. I suspect that your MKV does not have a CUE section (the table-of-contents-like section of the MKV which allows a file-reader to know where to jump to in the file).

You can re-write your MKV file with a few different programs that will author the CUE section for you.

With FFmpeg, the command line is:

    ffmpeg -i inputfile.mkv -c copy -map 0 outputfile.mkv

Where -c copy just copies the media in the tracks without re-encoding (which takes forever), and -map 0 (zero) ensures that all tracks are copied.

There is also MKV Tool Nix which has MKV Merge GUI, which is easy to use: drag, drop, click 'start muxing'.

Media Player error 0xc00d36c4 streaming MKV from PC

Maybe someone could at least confirm for me whether this is even a use-case that is expected to work?Is it expected that you can stream MKV video using the Media Player app on Xbox One from a Win8.1 PC media library?

I have subsequently tried to re-pro the issue on a fresh build of Win8.1 on a different PC on my home network, using the same MKV files, and same Media Streaming options. In this case Media Player app on XB1 does not even list the MKV files within this media
library. Maybe this is the default behaviour instead?

On the PC hosting the MKV files with which the Media Player app gives error 0xc00d36c4, I once had some third-party MKV codecs installed (CCCP) so that I could watch MKVs in Media Player 12 for Windows 8. Once MS added MKV support to the Video app in Win8.1
I uninstalled these third-party codecs. Could this be the only reason that the Media Player app on XB1 sees the MKV files in this media library, and it isn't even supposed to?

Media Player Not showing MKV files.

I am having the same issue. MKV files are not appearing in the media player browser. All of the other files that I expect to be there are present except for the MKV files.

Is this an issue with only certain encodings being displayed? Wouldn't that just result in playback issues?

An official response would be great. I was really looking forward to the MKV streaming in the October update.
