Media player finds computer finds all folders, but cannot find files in folders

    Hello,

I have a home network set up that I share video and music files through, the PC that shared everything was Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. My Media Player app on my Xbox One found all the files easily enough so long as everything was set as a location in the Video
library, and media streaming was turned on in my sharing options. I have upgraded the PC to Windows 8.1 Pro. I have followed all of the same steps as I did with my 7 build as far as sharing my media goes, but for some reason none of my files are seen. The
entire file structure above the files is seen (i.e. TVshows\Comedy\Cheers\Season01). I've turned off my firewall which made no difference, I double checked my streaming and sharing choices to ensure that video and music are allowed. My router is set properly.
I can use the Video app to stream to the One, but this is not ideal requiring my interaction with the PC for any changes. I'm very frustrated having run through all the troubleshooting steps and making no headway. Can anyone help?

    :)

Media Player - No folders found

    Hey,

The Media Player app does recognize my PC (using DLNA\Wifi), but it can't find any folders on it.

(I've made sure the videos library does have video files in it, just to be clear)

How do I configure the Media Player app where the video files are on my PC and why didn;t it automatically find it??

    Thanks!

    Hey DirtyMD!

Apologies for the delay! How is your Xbox One console and PC connected to your network? Are they both wired, wireless, or a mix of wired and wireless? First thing I recommend is to have both the Xbox One console and your PC have the same type of connection.

Next, is the Xbox One shown as allowed in your Media Streaming options? Verify that the Xbox One console shows up in that list and has been marked as allowed.

Post back with that information so we can help narrow down the issue for you! Media player finds computer finds all folders, but cannot find files in folders :)

    Hello Mister Beep,

Both my Xbox One and PC are connected by ethernet, and the Xbox One is allowed in the media sharing options.

I have tried turning my firewall off and that made no difference.

I have disabled Windows Defender and that did nothing.

I have triple checked my router settings.(and even set the Xbox One as a priority device for media streaming)

Still the same result, I can see the entire folder structure but when I open the folder with the files the Xbox One sees no files.

    Very frustrating.

Thanks for reporting back! I understand the frustration. First, I would recommend checking out

this thread where a few users were able to try different things to have their PC recognize their files.

The next thing I would like you to try after referring to the thread I linked is to set up a different user account on your PC with a folder or two containing the files you are trying to play. This will also help us a lot!

Thanks! Media player finds computer finds all folders, but cannot find files in folders :)

Media player finds computer finds all folders, but cannot find files in folders

I read through the thread and all of the solutions offered I have already attempted. I have been working at this for over a month so there is very little online that I have not tried.

I created a new local account on my PC and set up the share but still received the same no files found error.

Honestly I don't think this is an Xbox One issue it seems to me to be a Windows 8.1 issue, because none of my smart devices can see the files but can find all the folders. I just don't want to give up the fast boot times hopefully 10 solves the issue.
