    Media Player Device Discovery Issue

I had the same issue (including all the *sometimes* fixed it) but I SEEM to have resolved it (at least my Xbox One X has had a couple of restarts and still appears to find my server.

I had both my NAS (running a Twonky server) and my Xbox One X hard wired directly into the router - Xbox Films and TV app couldn't find the server (though the Films and TV app on my Windows 10 laptop had no such issue).

Now you're comment about the Xbox One X being hardwired (and the S being wireless) got me to thinking: as the Xbox is hard wired into the router I've never run the wireless set-up on my Xbox - may be worth a shot. This actually seems to have fixed it for
me (again at least for the time being).

I'll post again if it drops the server discovery but hopefully this has sorted it!

    Cheers!

    :)

    Media Player Device Discovery Issue

I've seen a few similar posts however none of the situations seem to match my exact situation. I apologize if this is a duplicate post.

I have an external USB harddrive plugged into my wifi router (nighthawk r7000 running tomato firmware) with the drive mounted as a Media Directory and the router running a DLNA server. There are media files on the harddrive.

My Xbox One X (although the problem happens on my Xbox One S as well) is hard wired directly into the nighthawk router.

A lot of the time, things work how they're supposed to. However, more recently when opening the Media Player app, the router/DLNA server won't show up in the list of available devices. Strangely, if I open VLC and hit Browse, it's able to find the harddrive
    without any problems.

On top of that weirdness, exiting completely out of Media Player and then restarting it *sometimes* fixes it. Restarting the Xbox *sometimes* fixes it. Power cycling the Xbox *sometimes* fixes it. Opening the DLNA folders from my laptop or connecting to
the router and opening the DLNA folders via FTP *sometimes* fixes it, though it's always hit or miss. And again, this happens on both the Xbox One X connected to the network via ethernet cable and the Xbox One S connected via wireless.

Removing the folder mounts and readding them through the router does seem to fix it every time, however every time this is done the harddrive is reindexed for the directory listing and with the amount of data/number of files on the drive this takes foooooorever!

Is anyone aware of something that can be done so that the device always shows up? I've already gone through this post:

Troubleshoot External Storage Drive Detection | Xbox One External Storage

However, it applies to external harddrives connected directly to the Xbox via USB. Any suggested, possible troubleshooting steps or any other information that might be helpful is appreciated! I work in the IT field as a support technician, so feel free to
use big words and *more advanced* troubleshooting steps if you have any. I'm sure I can handle it!

    Thanks!

XBOXONE not send ssdp notify and not response to ssdp discovery

    [...]

I have seen it sends ssdp discovery search for "InternetGatewayDevice", but why no notify and not response to discovery ?
I'm not a Xbox Software Engineer, so this is purely speculation on my end.

But I'd assume that the engineers only put the bare necessities form the UPnP spec into the Xbox system that is necessary for the device to work.

Meaning, the Xbox will only ask for the Gateway Device and try to set up the necessary port forwarding through UPnP.

With the addition of the Media Player App you might also find that this app tries to connect to UPnP compliant Media Servers, so the Xbox can stream music and video from such a media server.

Everything else is probably not implemented, as this is usually not needed in 99,9% of the console usage. Unless a much larger number of Xbox gamers know how to write an UPnP enumerator in their spare time, Microsoft doesn't see the need for a full UPnP
implementation, where the console responds on discovery requests, as this is not an "everyday" feature that a "standard" user expects from his device.

So you might want to try to find some software engineers from the Xbox team that work on the Xbox system to ask them why they decided to not reply to those notify and discovery requests.

You might want to ask https://twitter.com/darrinveit about that.

    Xbox 360 Streaming Music Issue

    I figured it out.

Just in case other's have this issue, I needed to navigate to "Services" on my PC - then stop my Windows Media Player Network Sharing service, then stop my UPnP Device Host service, the restart UPnP Device Host, then restart Windows Media Player Network
Sharing service. That did the trick!

    Media Player No Devices Found

I had the same issue and it turned out to be my pc, not the xbox, I went to the media centre on my pc and streaming had been turned off, I suspect a Microsoft update. Once I allowed it (again) its fine.
