For a "bolt-on" solution, has any tried putting a Ceton Echo on an XBox One to give it MCE functionality? If so, did you also try powering the Echo off of an Xbox One USB port?

Are people seriously trying this??? Wow... Marrying two failed devices like that is just asking for trouble.

BW Chip: I have an old DMA2200 running through my One though it is not powered off the USB port. The Echo would work in much the same way but requires Win 7 on your MC as the only Extender that fully supports 8 is the 360. Having said that the Echo like
my DMA2200 should work for live TV through a Win 8 machine, just not very well and you have no access to recorded shows. The One guide works great and you do get voice integration for channels etc. Personally not having the Media Center splash screen isn't
a big deal as it's a bit duplicative if you access most of your movies through one of the other apps like Xbox Video. Hope this helps.

Alright Microsoft, your competitor Sony has revealed their TV-through-the-console plan, and its even more antagonistic to the cable industry than what we're all asking for from you...

    www.ign.com/.../sony-announces-vue-a-cloud-based-tv-service

Could you please at a minimum release a MCE app for the Xbox One?? All we want to do is cutout the cable box and DVR fees - not dump cable all together like Sony's service may make feasible for some folks.

Better yet, release a multi-tuner CableCARD/TA/HDD companion for the Xbox One and cut WMC out of the equation if you like.

If Sony has the balls to introduce a service aimed at replacing traditional cable TV service outright, MS should at least have the courage to bring back WMC/MCE or otherwise provide a way to have their brand new console cutout the cable box rental and DVR
    fees...

I mean, for crying out loud, Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony Computer Entertainment) is tweeting this unabashedly today:

    Shuhei Yoshida on Twitter

He's pointing out a an article on the Verge with a headline that reads, "Sony's PlayStation Vue is a cloud-based TV service designed to kill your cable box".

Come on Microsoft. WMC/MCE by comparison looks "friendly" to the cable industry since it's not designed to replace it - just designed to make it not suck money out of our wallets via Cable box and DVR rental fees...

It is really a shame that Microsoft has abandoned Media Center. I love my Media Center and it is the only way I watch and record cable TV. I don't own/rent any cable boxes or DVR's from the cable company. And as it stands right now, I will never use the
Xbox One for watching TV, as it doesn't support the hardware that I've invested in. I originally planned to replace my four Xbox 360's with Xbox Ones. But, without an extender app on the One, that is never going to happen. And from the looks of it, they aren't
ever going to support Media Center on the One.

When I started this, I knew others agreed.. but now I'm losing a 360 (it's dying) and I have to replace it. With another 360. I have the XBOX1, I'd grab another.. but the lack of MCE is what stops me cold. MCE is how we put TV into our main bedroom and
    it has been flawless.

One of the things that should happen with Windows10 if they want this to go is better support or a whole new version of WMC. I'm good with that.

But give me some sort of MCE with XBOX1.

I agree completely. I really like the Xbox One, but I'm not going to buy more when I need my four Xbox 360's for all of my TV's.

Still waiting for a MC Extender app also, still using my 360's and Linksys Extenders because they still work. But if the 1 supported MC through an app I'd probably buy 2 more 1's. Honestly. Lets's go MS! You can do this.

I also would like to have my xbox one to be used as a media center extender. I would buy a second XBOX one if it could be used as such.

I would also buy TWO XB1s to replace my 360s if MS add media centre extender functionality to XB1.

Maybe this is just some false hope... But I'm hoping, that MS left the extender functionality out of the XB1 because they knew they would be upgrading it to a version of Windows 10, and they plan to put the extender in that...

    Wishful thinking probably..

It would be great if that were the case, but I haven't seen any evidence that WMC will be available in any incarnation in Windows 10. All signs point to MS killing it via intentional neglect. Sony and others (Sling) are doing stuff in this space, which
might prompt MS to dust off their hidden gem in WMC but I doubt it. I think they're angling to simply provide the delivery device(s) on which other solutions run.

My concern isn't whether Microsoft will include Windows Media Center in Windows 10 -- I believe they will include it if they want 100% of users to move to the latest OS.

However, I am concerned about one thing. Will Windows 10 Media Center need to go back to CableLabs for certification again, or will Microsoft incorporate the existing Media Center DRM layer into Windows 10, as they did for Windows 8?

It would make a lot of sense if Microsoft were to bridge the gap between the guide and dvr features in Windows Media Center with the guide and logic they put into the Xbox One's television services - ie, the digital tuner available in parts of Europe, newer
    guide look and feel, etc.

If they want to unify, that would be the way to go.
