Like I said,
You never asked for that. You said:

"I don't recall any actual cited source for a MS employee making any statements like you keep repeating."

Sinofsky's blog post is the source. It plainly states very few use WMC. It does so diplomatically, but the conclusion is the same - effectively no one uses WMC.
Did you not read Sinofski's blog post?

"In addition a lot of folks said “everyone I know uses it.” As I said, we’re completely committed to delivering Media Center in Windows 8, but I wanted to share some of the usage data."

That's the prelude to the paragraph which shows exactly how few people use it.
Not that open.
I wouldn't say I'm the only one. I'm
one of the few who repeatedly pours water on the zealots who believe MCE is a must-have. So far no one has any stats to back up the phrase, "everyone I know uses it". So far no one's put forward a for-profit reason to keep WMC or MCE alive.

As of right now, all the information available about WMC points to a very small user base. This is information that MS themselves have provided. And while Sinofsky may have indicated the team was committed to supporting WMC, well, it's two years later. Sinofsky's
no longer at MS. WMC is a pay-for add-on to the most expensive consumer version of Windows 8.

That you don't like my interpretation of the situation, backed with data that shows it's true, is not my concern.

:)

@IceStorm

Why do you feel the need to be "one of the few who repeatedly pours water on the zealots"?

Is your life so empty and meaningless that you really have NOTHING better to do with your life than troll this thread? A thread in which a group of people (regardless of size) ask for a feature that fulfills a desire to have
the same "center of the living room" functionality in a "next-gen" platform that is currently available in "last-gen" consoles prior to forking over the cash?

Why do you feel it's necessary to relentlessly defend Microsoft from this request when you're not an employee nor have been asked by them to perform such a task?

Why do you bother when, as you claim, Microsoft doesn't even read these forums?

Why you?

We obviously could care less about your statistics or your opinion. Nothing you can say will change my views or those of us who, like me, want MCE functionality in the XBone.

To us, you're like a house cat impotently chittering at a bird on the other side of a window. Perhaps a curiosity at first, but ultimately meaningless.

I, for one, refuse to acknowledge anything else you have to say in this or any other thread simply because you've become so pedantic it's sad.

that MS plans to listen to you and refresh WMC on Windows and add MCE to Xbox One?

Wishing for WMC/MCE to happen isn't going to make it so. I've pointed out a viable, supported alternative - TiVo.
How is pointing out that MS's own data does not
corroborate your fantasy world a defense of MS?
I can't force you out of your delusion, I can only provide the evidence that you're living in one.

I do not know if this will irritate you fellas. That is not my intention, believe me! I need advice and you sound like you are well beyond high school and fairly up on mixing systems. This is what i have and think i need. It is just my son and I since my
now ex. went out for a ride to clear his head and returned five days later with hs girlfriend to help him pack to move in with this woman. My son was crushed! I was something else. I became determined to be able to make the things happen for our son without
the brain of my ex. I have some background in electronics which has made it possible for me to repair certain Xbox 360 malfunctions. I am right now in a position where I need to figure out if I would be better off buying a new Samsung LED TV with three HDMI
hook ups, many different video selections such as Netflix, HULU, etc. Or stay with my 10yr old Apex 20" which I have my Xbox plugged into. I have been able to get WMC APM st entirely functional with Tue exception of Streaming Live TV because I do not have
a tuner card in my computer which I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with no spare memory; this s s so bad that it takes about five minutes to log my son's profile off in order to sign myself in and my Xbox also doesn't have a working disc drive yet. . I also
have an issue where I am so sick off paying for cable and even as we speak, we only have hi-speed internet with Streaming and the ISP has yet to send a correct billing. Every time we try to get them to fix what we requested for service, they mess it up again.
All we have is hi-speed with Streaming and Stacy our first bill was $198. Ridiculous and I am tired of babysitting and scrutinizing every bill to find out if they reversed the first amount we should have been charged once it was fixed, back to the wrong amount
charged as well as the next item they messed up. We were charged for home phone service the second time I called them and I told them we did not ask for phone, we don't even have a standard telephone to plug into an outlet even if we did think or know we had
the service. But they want us to pay for their mistake under the principle that we should ha e told them we had service. I told them we didn't own a conventional phone. Too many ways for ISP to ratchet up your service CE without your consent, knowledge, and
they teach their agents to do th bait and switch. I am sick to death of companies trying to cheat me. Is there any of you who are willing to help me figure out the best ISP to provide Internet Access w/Streaming Media for less than $50. I still need to figure
out if roku or something similar may be a good way to go or maybe all I need is to figure out the order by which I start to work on the problems I encounter? My head tells me to first leave the ISP alone for now so I have at least one constant. Next, I feel
I should get my computer memory issues and any other computer issues repaired. But, when I fix the memory issues, should I purchase a tuner card to put inside the computer or is an external stand alone tuner a better option. How do I figure out which, either
tuner card or stand alone works bests with my setup. Then do I get a new TV in order to get all the different Netflix, HULU, Verizon fIOS, and another option, to allow any local programming should I get those new mud flap style 50 mile range antennas called
mohu. I do think I am overwhelmed a bit here and I do not want to make the mistake of buying duel items that do similar functions. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you for your time, D

Also, not many people are going to read your wall of text. Luckily for you, I did (and unfortunately for me, I did). These all sound like issues you're going to have to resolve on your own as an adult (and should be able to as an adult). You'll figure something
out, I'm sure - good luck.

I just want to see where anyone actually associated with MS has ever made a comment like "effectively no one uses WMC".

Did you not read Sinofski's blog post?
Seriously? It's not bad enough that you're trying to cite Sinofsky as a source (www.extremetech.com/.../140733-sinofsky-abrupt-firing-can-microsoft-finally-make-progress-in-mobile),
yet you're trying to read between the lines where there's nothing to read. He never said a thing. Your reasoning here really is getting pretty ridiculous. Sinofski's numbers say a small percentage of Windows 7 users use MWC. WOW! WHAT A SHOCKER!!! I mean,
it's not like the majority of people use Windows for business or other purposes since it can do all kinds of things. Oh, wait...

So, what else do they say? Yea, nothing. Other than the fact that millions of people in the world use WMC, and this is with practically no advertising and no promotion. It's basically a hidden gem of a feature. If MS can't figure out how to make a profit
off WMC (which they already are from Windows 8 Pro upgrades and 360 extender sales), then it's either because their incompetence, or they have some type of vested interest in cable companies. If you can't see something so simple, then I'm sorry for you. I'm
also done wasting my time responding to you on the subject. Thanks for giving me a good laugh though. Media Center Extender... :)
It's not bad enough that you're trying to cite Sinofsky as a source
He's the best source FOR your argument that you're going to find. He was adamant that WMC would be part of Windows 8. By the time Windows 8 shipped, though,
it had been relegated to a pay-for add-on for the most expensive consumer version of the OS, and that hasn't changed since Windows 8 shipped.
There's not much to read between.
What he posted is the most diplomatic way to say, "virtually no one uses this application."
His blog post never states a figure like that.
He keeps it confined to percentages.
You'd have to back that up with data from 2011 that shows it was or was not advertised. There's plenty in Windows that isn't "advertised".
Many have tried in the space, including Beyond TV, Sage TV, TiVo, and Motorola's Moxi. The only ones having actual success are the ones wed to Cable (Scientific Atlanta). TiVo's fighting a losing battle.
Which would show up somewhere on a bottom line. You've not provided proof of that.
As your replies appear to be
nothing more than tin-foil hat conspiracy theories about MS taking some sort of nebulous payoff from "big cable", that's a good thing.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think MCE is a dying piece of software. Media Center Extender... :( I just wish someone else with MCE Type functionality (with some sort of extender support) would get certified for Cable Card.

@okstatepoke, you're right. MCE and the like will be dead within 5 years. I just wish Microsoft would support MCE for the next 5 years or so to bridge the gap until everything is streaming.

The news that MS is releasing an adapter for tuning OTA channels in Europe along with local streaming to tablets etc gives me hope that MS might actually release something cool in US along these lines. Could they release an accessory that included a CableCard
tuner and TA?? I'm not holding by breath, because that would make TOO MUCH GOSH DARN SENSE for MS, but with the announcement of an XB1 with a 1TB HDD + the OTA tuner (for European countries) it at least shows that MS isn't done innovating with the XB1 in
regards to methods of watching live TV.
