Hello all, I have recently purchased the Xbox X series and discovered there is no way to tell that you are actually recording. Often I thought I was recording an hour's worth of gaming only to find out it stopped within seconds or minutes, or perhaps I didn't hit record at all. I record to and SSD to get an hours worth, btw.

On PC, it put the timer on the screen, of which you can decide where it will appear which is pretty cool and convenient. If anything like that could happen that would be great or even if the Xbox light on the console changed colors or flashed to indicate it is in record mode.

I am sure content creator would appreciate this, cause it is quite disheartening to think you are recording a challenge that you successful achieve only to discover you didn't. It would be great if is an update so anyone with an Xbox can choose to show the record timer on screen or something of the like.

This is my humble request.

The Xbox One does not allow for recording of footage through the HDMI-IN.

Think about if you have a DVD player or your TV going through the HDMI-IN, that could lead to some very sticky issues with recording TV shows and DVDs.

Technically, it can record what is going on the screen, but because of legal issues, it doesn't allow it.

I'm having similar issues but whereas mine is recording when I say "Xbox record that" it is only recording less than a second of video

Hello again, yes I saw, if the program only shows this error when trying to record Auto Cad, I can not tell you if it is any incompatibility of the program with Windows Bar, my suggestion is that try other free screen recording programs like:

Apowersoft Screen Recorder.

Movavi Screen Recorder.

Camtasia.

Streamlabs OBS.

Ezvid.

BlueBerry FlashBack Express Recorder.

OBS Studio.

Rylstim Screen Recorder

As I think about it a bit more, perhaps when the X1 is showing live TV I can use my DVR remote to select recordings without the X1 even knowing in a sense. When I am done with the recording I can then use the TV guide within the X1 to switch around on live
TV.

One thing I might recommend trying is searching for the Xbox One (Beta) app in the App Store. Install that one, and see if you have the same problems with it? That can help rule out if it's the App itself, or if it might be an issue with your Profile /
Account Settings. You might also want to review your Privacy and Online Safety Settings following the instructions in that link on how to get there.
