Maximum external hard drive size?

What is the maximum HDD size that the XBONE will use. I speculate that it would be 12 TB, but I would like to know for sure.

Also, does anybody know what the maximum XBOX 360 HDD size is too?

is there a maximum size hard drive I can add? Found a good deal for 8 TB external hard drive.

If you are using this as an external storage (as the 500GB is not officially supported for the original fat 360 model), then the maximum allowed partition for any drive is 32GB. The cable is meant only for transferring files from an old hard drive to a new
one, not for using as an external drive. External drive support on the 360 is limited to 2 devices of 32GB maximum on each device - any additional space on a hard drive or flash drive is wasted.

 

16 TB on the one. The only one that is made to fit into the Slim model 360s is the 250GB. The older 360 models had a 20, 60, 120, and 250GB.

 

The 360 can use up to 2TB on an external HDD, and you can have up to 2 connected at a time.

 

No, the max EXTERNAL drive on the 360 is 2 TB due to the FAT32 limits. It also has a sector size limitation and not all 2 TB external drives will work on the 360, though you'll have a hard time finding anything official as to what works and what doesn't.

As Genesis said on the One it is 16 TB, but you are allowed to have 2 drives for 32 TB total.

This is an artificial limit though as the Win10 OS supports 64 bit sector addressing that can access up to 9.4 zetabytes or 9.4 billion terabytes of data. No such drive exists, of course, so pretty much theoretical.

 

So with the One, the sky is the theoretical limit? Good, I like that!

And with the 360, is it unto 2 drives of 2TB each, or 2 drives totaling 2TB?

 

What's the largest amount of memory you can buy on an external hard drive at the moment? Just curious.

@bran - I know as a single drive there is a 10TB, but not sure if it's external.

 

People should be aware that the larger drives can have issues for use with the Xbox One. There were several posts during earlier Preview updates about 8TB externals not spinning up fast enough and enumerating the contents quickly enough for the Xbox One
to recognize them. The drive access would time out as the system was set to too short a time for it to spin up and be recognized. Pretty sure that has been fixed but just in case.

The biggest hard drive is currently the Samsung 16TB SSD in a 2.5 inch drive format. Western Digital has some 10Tb desktop models that were announced not that long ago.

Keep in mind prices go way, way up the bigger and newer the drive is. 8TB 7200 rpm Hitachi is around $600. I have no idea what the 16TB Samsung SSD is going to sell for as the 2TB desktop model runs around $600.

 

16TB? That's more space than I could possibly use.
