Insider Builds are working on changing the messaging framework, and this is one of the settings they are trying out. Things like having to 'accept' messages from non-Xbox Live friends, and not being able to just automatically add others to group chat messages,
etc.

They are currently testing and focusing on messaging in future updates via the Insider channels
which might help annoy you less? But I would say messaging might be tricky sometimes like that across multiple platforms including the Xbox app on Windows 10, Android, iOS, etc. And on the console it might be that some of those messages are from Xbox Live
itself, which are in a different thread on the console than the Xbox Apps, so you might need to check there.

And you can always use the
Xbox Feedback channel to support ideas you'd like to see changed or fixed!

An update for you, that the issue is resolved! Updates for games are now showing in My Games and Apps! A new system update was released, that you should be prompted for when you start your console today. The build should be 1904.190329-1920. More info on

The March update when it comes out will bring 360 games to the Xbox One marketplace if that helps.

Are you on the Xbox Insider previews? If so, they are changing it for something else. Can't recall offhand but it's in the release notes from a couple weeks back.
