    March 2017 Update - Hard drive issues


    Has anyone experienced/reported any issues with their XBOX ONE hard drive post the big March 2017 update?

    One day it's quiet, then the update was applied, and the very next use of the console and since then when a disc is playing it makes an annoying noise for a few minutes on and off.

    I also think it has led to some sort of issue with reading discs, as I more often get the message stating the game "took too long to start."

    I don't think it is coincidence this issue started to occur directly post the update. I have the original Xbox One 500Gb SKU.

    The new update sucks. The home screen was perfectly fine before. Now you've gone and made it more complicated and unnapealing to the eye. Press the home button once and it takes you to the side bar, where you then have to click a few buttons to actually
    get home. It was much simpler before.

    29 March 2017 killed my external storage!

    I have 2 identically equipped Xbox One consoles. Each has a Collective Minds Media Hub equipped with a Samsung Seagate Momentus ST2000LM003 2TB 2.5" SATA Notebook Hard Drive. They have worked flawlessly since 16 May 2015, when they were installed. As of
    29 March 2017, the date of the March Update, both consoles show no external storage. The drives still spin up with their consoles; just don't show up under storage management any longer, and the games therein are inaccessible.

    So, Microsoft: what's the fix, and when can we expect it?

    You may be able to get storage on a HDD, but you will still most likely encounter problems, seeing as internal storage is the primary storage device.

    We've already tried formatting it, and it still says 665mb of available space. Will simply replacing the hard drive work, because then I can just buy one at a store for 20$, instead of spending more repairing it.

    Hi, sorry to say it looks like your internal memory unit may have failed which will mean sending the Xbox in for repair. This would explain the update issue you are experiencing.

    You could try formatting the memory unit and you could get lucky.

    Go to settings/ system/ storage. Highlight the memory unit and press Y on the controller, select the format option.

    Should the memory unit format then that's great, if it won't format or formats and then becomes unformatted again the Xbox will need to be repaired

    As Irixion says getting another storage device isn't going to help sorry. The update always installs to the primary storage device be that internal memory unit or hard drive and as that has failed and cannot be replaced by yourself I'm afraid you can't update
    the xbox until you get the hardware fault fixed.
