Mandatory update issues for new XBox ones

I like so many people here had issues with trying to do the mandatory updates on a new Xbox One that I bought for my son this Christmas. It has taken me all day yesterday (Christmas Day) and today, and many tears, his and mine, but I have now found the solution,
but I cannot claim the fame for it, just passing on the love.

It was a DNS issue, well for me. All I had to do was go into m y modem settings and change the primary DNS to Googles ie 8.8.8.8 and the secondary to 8.8.4.4 Downloaded like a charm, first time all the way.

Got my hands in the air going whoop whoop (sorry a little excited). now just got to get the games loaded..........

Mandatory Update a real thing?

I've heard that if you disconnect the Xbox one from the internet and new updates become available, you'll have to do a mandatory update if you don't want to update it with the new available updates after some time (assuming that time is a few weeks) even if you don't connect it back to the internet and won't be able to really do anything with the console until you reconnect to the internet and do the mandatory update. I need to know because I'm planning on buying the One and game offline for a temporary time until my internet is back up. Setting up the Xbox won't be a problem which I'll be doing somewhere else with an internet connection as some of you already know from my other thread. Just need to know if the mandatory update is true or not because if it is, I'll just wait until my internet is back up then buy the One without having to struggle with the mandatory update.

WTF..!? Game won't load!

And I know that there are mandatory updates for this game but the only ones are update 1, 3 and 4... What happened to update 2?

if you are talking about it rebooting during the updating process. But I can't say that it is a definite fix, it worked for me, so I am just sharing in the hope that it will work for others. Try it and see, you can change your settings back afterwards.

The reason for that is the mandatory update that isn't showing up on the store. That's why I referred you to the devs. You're not the only one facing the issue unfortunately. If the mandatory update shows up and you perform it, the problem will go away.

The update is mandatory from 23rd November so the console will insist on the update the moment it connects for the first time.

Yes there as an update for the new game + shortly before and then the 16gb one that was mandatory to enable the DLC, which kinda sucks if it wasn't going to be played.
